A new “Star Wars” movie is coming soon! “The Mandalorian and Grogu” will be in theaters on May 23, 2026 – the first big “Star Wars” film since 2019’s “The Rise of Skywalker.” A recently released trailer gives fans a sneak peek at the exciting new story.
The movie continues the story from the Disney+ series The Mandalorian, but with even more action, fantastical creatures, and impressive environments.
Pedro Pascal reprises his role as the Mandalorian, Din Djarin, and everyone’s favorite little creature, Grogu, returns! This season also welcomes new faces: Sigourney Weaver plays a retired Rebel pilot, Jeremy Allen White voices a member of the Hutt family, and Jonny Coyne stars as a leader within the remnants of the Imperial army.

The Disney+ series originally launched right before the movie The Rise of Skywalker in 2019. It centers on Din Djarin, a bounty hunter who unexpectedly becomes the guardian of Grogu, as they journey through a galaxy still rebuilding after the Empire’s defeat.
The show depicted a complex world with blurred lines between good and evil, focusing on the New Republic’s efforts to keep the peace while facing ongoing threats from the remnants of the Empire. It aired for three seasons – in 2019, 2020, and 2023 – and launched several spin-off series, including The Book of Boba Fett (2021), Ahsoka (2023), and Skeleton Crew (2024).
Jon Favreau, known for creating The Mandalorian, directed the film and co-wrote the screenplay with Dave Filoni, who leads creative efforts at Lucasfilm. Viewers can anticipate the same high level of detail and compelling stories from the series, but with a bigger, more expansive cinematic experience.
Along with the new movie, Disney is also enhancing the Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run attraction at Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The updated ride will launch at the same time as the film, offering fans an extra opportunity to experience the story firsthand.
