As a lifestyle expert with a deep appreciation for acting and the entertainment industry, I can relate to Manny Jacinto‘s struggle of maintaining character secrecy during the global press tour for “The Acolyte.” Having followed his career, I am well aware of his versatility as an actor and his ability to completely immerse himself into a role.
Manny Jacinto, who plays Qimir in the new Star Wars series, according to online opinion, truly shined. But keeping the details of his character a secret during the extensive media promotions proved challenging.
The Acolyte star Manny Jacinto admits struggling to keep character secrecy
During the worldwide promotional tour for Top Gun: Maverick, Jacinto kept hidden the complex facets of his personality. Although he portrayed a Sith Lord on screen, there were additional depths to his character that required his attention.
Raised in Richmond, British Columbia, but originally from Manila, Jacinto has made a name for himself as one of Leslye Headland’s characters – The Acolyte. His enigmatic Sith Lord character captivated viewers whether concealed or unveiled. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he described his role as a multifaceted one, starting as Qimir and later portraying both the masked and unmasked versions of the mysterious Stranger.
Despite finding it challenging to keep four complex characters’ secrets during worldwide media promotions, Jacinto viewed this as an acting assignment rather than an additional burden. Consequently, when confronted with a press tour, he approached it like another character to portray, as Jacinto expressed his dislike for publicity events to the interviewing outlet.
I found myself in a predicament where I had to deceive people blatantly, leaving me pondering, “What’s my backstory? Why am I here?” The actor went on to explain that he had to bring yet another character to life from the intricate three-layered persona he had already portrayed in The Acolyte. To preserve the secrecy surrounding my role, I was compelled to invent tales about myself.
Manny Jacinto’s narrow escape from spoiler leak of The Acolyte character
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve worked closely with Dafne Keen and Charlie Barnett, two talented actors whose Jedi characters met unfortunate ends at the hands of the enigmatic Stranger in that popular show. It was my responsibility to be vigilant and ensure no spoilers slipped out unintentionally from my end.
During a Star Wars Celebration, Keen and Barnett unintentionally discussed Jacinto’s stunt work to compliment him, but unfortunately, it revealed sensitive information. Jacinto then had to handle the situation by stating, “These aren’t my words, but Dafne said, ‘Manny is a stunt master.’ So I had to correct things.”
At the same time, The Acolyte, a new Star Wars series, includes actors such as Manny Jacinto, Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-Jae, Carrie Anne Moss, Charlie Barnett, Dean-Charles Chapman, Joonas Suotamo, Dafne Keen, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Rebecca Henderson. This series is now available for streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
