Emily Bader tagged Edward Bluemel as her perfect love interest in My Lady Jane
Emily Bader spoke highly of her co-star Edward Bluemel during an interview with PEOPLE. According to Bader, she instantly felt that Bluemel was the ideal choice for portraying Lord Guildford Dudley in their project. After being chosen for the role herself, Bader went through chemistry readings with five other actors before ultimately working with Bluemel.
Among the five men, Bluemel was the one who clicked with her right away. The actress praised Edward Bluemel for his witty remark and captivating personality, making him an ideal choice for the part, in her opinion.
I could hardly contain my excitement as I was the fortunate one chosen first for the role. Once selected, we jumped right into chemistry reads with various actors, about five in total. But it was Edward who captured my heart during our initial read. He was off in Nova Scotia at the time, yet I sensed a strong connection. The uncertainty of who would ultimately be cast added to the thrill, but Edward’s unique blend of snark, charm, and brooding intensity resonated perfectly with me for the character. What an exhilarating experience!
Emily Bader on her British character in My Lady Jane
Lady Jane’s Story and Love: This cinematic piece recounts the journey of Lady Jane Grey as she assumes the throne, and her heart-wrenching romance with Lord Guildford Dudley. The production is a creative adaptation of Lady Jane Grey’s historical narrative, penned by Jodi Meadows, Brodi Ashton, and Cynthia Hand, under the direction of Gemma Burgess.
In Lady Jane’s England, there exists a peculiar group of outcasts known as Ethians. These individuals have the unique ability to assume animal forms. Amongst the nobility, Lord Guildford Dudley is also an Ethian, possessing the power to transform into a horse. This intriguing detail adds another layer of complexity to the narrative.
Bader described her character as a captivating blend of Blondie’s rebellious spirit and Elizabeth Bennet’s intelligence. She added that this character is not only rock and roll, badass, hardcore, and cool but also an intriguing dream. As an American actress, she openly discussed the difficulties of portraying a British character authentically, admitting that she maintained the accent from her arrival until around half a year into filming when she became more confident.
Bader effectively brought her character to life in “My Lady Jane,” as proven by the favorable response from viewers. The show’s first season, consisting of eight episodes, premiered on June 27, 2024, and left open the possibility for a second season. You can watch it online through Amazon Prime Video.
