Daniel Radcliffe is happy with his decision to avoid social media and doesn’t regret it at all.
The actor recently told Rolling Stone why he stays away from social media sites like Instagram and X. He said he doesn’t feel like he’s missing out at all, stating simply, “Literally never.”
Daniel Radcliffe feels social media seems more draining than enjoyable. He already experiences a lot of daily pressure and doesn’t believe that using platforms like Instagram or Twitter would be good for his mental well-being. He admitted it feels overwhelming and that he’s stressed enough as it is, and doesn’t think being online would help him feel better.
During the interview, Daniel Radcliffe was busy preparing for his upcoming Broadway show, Every Brilliant Thing, set to open in March. He mentioned an interesting moment from rehearsal: his fellow actors were discussing apps to help people reduce their phone usage. Seeing this conversation just reinforced his feeling that avoiding excessive phone use is the right choice for him.
Daniel Radcliffe uses the internet, but he deliberately avoids social media. He playfully admitted this choice might seem outdated to his son one day, saying, “I’m sure this is going to be the thing that when my son is older will make him think of me as unspeakably old.” Despite this, he firmly stated, “I just can’t do it.”
Daniel Radcliffe and his wife, Erin Darke, have a two-year-old son, but they haven’t revealed his name to the public.
Radcliffe has discussed his avoidance of social media before. He’s shared that he used to look for comments about himself online when he was younger, and it negatively affected his well-being. He considers constantly checking online to be an unhealthy habit, and feels current social media platforms encourage that same behavior.
He playfully predicted that if he ever created a Twitter account, it would probably result in news stories about him getting into online arguments. He previously explained, “I’m certain the headlines would be something like, ‘Dan Radcliffe gets into a fight with a random person on Twitter.’”
Daniel Radcliffe has honestly admitted he’s not comfortable with the constant attention that comes with being on social media. He understands his own boundaries and is perfectly okay with not having public accounts because he doesn’t feel mentally equipped to handle the relentless opinions and commentary. As he put it, he’s ‘all right with that.’
