6 Anime Characters Just Like Eren Yeager from Attack on Titan

As a lifestyle expert with a deep appreciation for anime and its complex characters, I have seen my fair share of individuals who were driven by their emotions to the point of crossing moral lines, much like Eren Yeager from “Attack on Titan.” While some may argue that Eren’s actions were justified, the characters in this list have all demonstrated a strong desire to change the world, often at great personal and societal cost.

I’ve been an avid fan of anime for years, and throughout my journey, I’ve come across some characters whose stories have left me in awe and others that have made me question the depths of human emotion. Eren Yeager, the protagonist from “Attack on Titan,” is one such character whose transformation from an ordinary Corps member to committing genocide and eliminating 80% of humanity, left me utterly speechless.

I’ve come across situations where once-villainous characters surprisingly transformed into heroes. These aren’t common occurrences, but I can recall a few intriguing examples. Ranging from a cunning serial killer hiding in plain sight to an actual deity, here are six captivating Anime characters who share striking similarities with Eren Yeager.

Light Yagami – Death Note

As someone who has spent countless hours immersed in the intricate worlds of anime and manga, I have come to appreciate the depth and complexity of characters like Light Yagami and Eren Yeager. At first glance, they may seem similar – both driven by a desire to make the world a better place through their superior powers. However, their journeys could not be more different.

Griffith – Berserk

Previously hailed as the “Falcon of Light” and the “Savior across Lands,” Griffith’s unexpected transformation into the fifth member of the God Hand left Berserk fans in disbelief with a hint of amusement. Fueled by his desires, Griffith betrayed his loyal comrades who had rescued him from certain death. To add insult to injury, he also tormented Guts, the main character, in his pursuit of power. Unlike Eren, Griffith’s ambition goes beyond simple survival; he aims to rule over the entire world. It came as a surprise to many that among all the series’ characters, Griffith was the one who turned out to be the Villain.

Ken Kaneki – Tokyo Ghoul

It’s surprising how a disappointing date resulted in Kaneki becoming a Half-Ghoul. Although he had ghoul allies helping him transform, his actions negatively impacted both human and ghoul communities. Much like Eren’s Founding Titan, Kaneki’s kagune, the Dragon, caused massive destruction in Tokyo. In contrast to Eren, however, Kaneki made up for the damage he inflicted. The series concludes with humans and ghouls coexisting harmoniously – something Eren unfortunately couldn’t achieve.

Sasuke Uchiha – Naruto

From my perspective as a lifestyle expert, picture yourself finding solace in the arms of a villainous alliance due to your perceived weakness. This was the path Sasuke chose when he joined Akatsuki with the intention of growing stronger. It’s true that his primary goal may have been to seek revenge against his brother and avenge the Uchiha clan, but make no mistake, he challenged all Kages as well.

Akame – Akame ga Kill!

Akame, like Eren, has a harrowing past and is motivated by her objectives. The Empire regarded Akame as a betrayer since she defected to the rebellion aiming to overthrow them. Although Eren’s development resulted in the annihilation of the world, Akame strives to dismantle The Empire for honorable reasons. A key distinction between them is that Akame conceals her feelings while Eren expresses his anger, as shown when Eren assaults Armin.

Shiro – Deadman Wonderland

As an obsessed fan, I’d put it this way: In this anime, I find myself drawn to a unique setting – a prison is where our story unfolds, but not everyone within its walls is a criminal. There seems to be an enigmatic character named Shiro, who initially comes across as an innocent and cheerful girl, always eager to have fun with her best friend Ganta. Yet, beneath the surface lies another side of her, a darker persona called Wretched Egg.

Despite having distinct plotlines, the anti-hero qualities bind these characters together. They’re prepared to take extreme measures to accomplish their goals, which are justified in their perspectives. Unlike Eren, they haven’t carried out mass killings.
