Netflix Is Removing Every Season of a Beloved Modern Sitcom

After over ten years, Netflix is removing the beloved comedy Arrested Development on March 15th. The Emmy-winning show holds a special place in Netflix history as one of the first revived series when the platform started creating its own shows.

The show began on Fox and, while critics loved it, it had a difficult start. It ran for three seasons, from 2003 to 2006, but struggled with low viewership despite having a dedicated fan base, which ultimately led to its cancellation. The show’s creator, Mitchell Hurwitz, later said he had poured all his energy into the show to satisfy viewers, but realized he couldn’t consistently maintain that high standard week after week, and decided it was time to stop.

The show maintained a dedicated fanbase for years until Netflix helped create a fourth season in 2013, and later a fifth season split into two parts, which finished in 2019. Although many believed it would be removed from Netflix in 2023, a new agreement with Disney kept it available for another three years. With that deal now ending, fans have just a few weeks left to watch all 84 episodes of the family’s chaotic stories.

The cast of Arrested Development continues to be very successful in film and television. Will Arnett is having a particularly strong year, with his new movie Is This Thing On? released digitally on February 10th. He not only stars in the film, but also co-wrote and produced it, alongside Laura Dern and Bradley Cooper. The movie is based on the life of comedian John Bishop and follows Alex, a middle-aged man trying to revive his marriage and pursue stand-up comedy in New York City. Meanwhile, Alia Shawkat is starring in the popular series Severance, and Jessica Hale continues to be a sought-after voice actor and character actress.
