Sarah Michelle Gellar is reminding everyone just how iconic her role as Buffy Summers was. For those who watched her in the 1990s, she was more than just an actress – she was a pop culture phenomenon. Her performance blended scary moments, exciting action, and clever humor, changing expectations for female characters on TV and leaving a lasting impact that’s still felt today.

Before becoming famous for Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Sarah Michelle Gellar started her career in daytime television. She won a Daytime Emmy Award for her work on All My Children when she was just 18, quickly establishing herself as a talented actress. This early achievement led to her iconic role on Buffy, a show that resonated with a generation and perfectly captured the spirit of the 90s.

1997 was a pivotal year for Sarah Michelle Gellar, not just with the debut of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but also in her film career. That year, she starred in the popular horror movie I Know What You Did Last Summer, which was a big success in theaters. Even more significantly, it’s where she met her future husband, Freddie Prinze Jr. They would later co-star in the sequel to that film and the Scooby-Doo movies, and their connection was clear to audiences.

I’ve always admired Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. – they really seemed to value a normal life. After going public with their relationship back in 2000, they intentionally stepped back from the constant Hollywood spotlight to build a family. They had two kids, Charlotte in ’09 and Rocky in ’12’, and it was clear they prioritized being parents – celebrating those everyday family moments – over the demands of filming. But it was a really tough personal loss in 2014 that seemed to shift Sarah Michelle’s whole outlook on her career, and I’ve been curious to see how that impacted her choices ever since.

Robin Williams’ unexpected death, coming right after we’d worked together on The Crazy Ones, was truly devastating. Looking back, it really shifted my priorities. It made me realize I needed to be fully present for my kids, and that led me to step away from acting for a while. Those years were incredibly valuable – I could focus on my family and build my baking company, Foodstirs, while still doing the occasional voiceover or guest spot. It was a conscious choice to prioritize what truly mattered.
