Sydney Sweeney Says Her TikTok Is Flooded With Hate Targeted Toward Her

Sydney Sweeney has been discussing the unkind comments she receives online, particularly on TikTok. While promoting her new film, The Housemaid, she explained how damaging social media can be and its ongoing impact on her.

In a Vanity Fair interview using a lie detector, Sydney Sweeney discussed her TikTok account, @syds_garage, with Amanda Seyfried. She explained that the account, originally intended for fun, has unfortunately become a source of negativity and criticism instead of the support she hoped for.

Sweeney described the comments she receives as overwhelmingly hateful. Seyfried reacted with strong frustration, exclaiming her dislike for TikTok. This exchange showed just how deeply personal and upsetting online criticism can be.

It’s not the first time I’ve seen people criticizing Sweeney. I remember earlier this year, there was a lot of talk about the campaign she did with American Eagle jeans, and it caused quite a bit of controversy.

An advertisement sparked controversy online because its slogan, “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans,” was interpreted as a joke about genetics. The criticism rapidly gained traction on social media.

Sydney Sweeney recently told Variety that her “For You” page on TikTok often shows her a lot of negative comments. She explained that it depends on which account she’s using: her personal page features history and crafts, but on her “Syds Garage” account, she unfortunately sees a lot of hateful content directed at her.

Sweeney discussed the controversy in an interview with People magazine, explaining she was taken aback by the negative response. She stated she participated in the campaign simply because she likes the jeans and the brand itself, and that she doesn’t agree with the opinions some people associated with it. She emphasized that she never meant to endorse any harmful or divisive beliefs.

The actress used to dismiss criticism from the media, thinking it was best to ignore it. Now, she realizes that staying quiet can let misinformation spread. She expressed hope for a more positive online environment in the future, saying, “I hope this new year brings more focus on what connects us instead of what divides us.”
