In the first Control, players step into the shoes of Jesse Faden (played by Courtney Hope), a woman with a mysterious history and a connection to a powerful force called Polaris. Her main goal is to find her brother, Dylan, who was taken years ago by the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC). Jesse unexpectedly becomes the director of the FBC, gaining powerful telekinetic abilities, and must defend the Oldest House from a dangerous threat known as the Hiss. The game was further expanded with additional content that delved deeper into its world. Now, with the sequel, Remedy is taking the action outside of the Oldest House.
In the upcoming game, players will control Dylan, a character who’s always been more powerful than Jesse, as he ventures into the world after the strange events from the Oldest House spill out. Following the success of both Control and the critically acclaimed Alan Wake 2, Remedy Entertainment is continuing its streak. Resonant seems to be taking a fresh approach, similar to but distinct from the original Control, just like Alan Wake 2, and will likely include more connections to the Remedy universe. According to GamesRadar+, Resonant will shift away from third-person shooting and focus on melee combat within an action RPG format.
According to creative director Mikael Kasurinen, the new game, Control Resonant, is set seven years after the events of the original Control. The story begins with Jesse’s unexplained disappearance and the subsequent failure of the lockdown procedures. He’s the only one capable of stopping the unfolding crisis and regaining control.
I’m definitely excited! Remedy hasn’t disappointed me yet, so I’m really hoping this new game delivers the same kind of wonderfully strange and unpredictable experiences – you know, the kind where even a refrigerator can be a threat if you look away!
Control Resonant will come out in 2026 on PlayStation 5.
