MOTHER OF FLIES Trailer: Cronenbergian Body Horror Meets Witchy Folk Terror

Receiving a terminal diagnosis is a heartbreaking reality for many. While some people choose to accept their fate and focus on living their remaining days to the fullest, others explore alternative treatments hoping for more time. However, seeking help from dubious sources – like a mysterious and unsettling witch – is never a good idea. Even if such a person could offer a cure, magic always comes at a cost. This is the premise of Mother of Flies, a new film from Shudder with a truly unsettling trailer.

This film is by the Adams Family. No, not that creepy and kooky clan. This Adams Family is all about crafting horror stories, and we love that. In the clip, Zelda Adams portrays Mickey, a woman facing a tough diagnosis. She goes into the woods with her father (John Adams) to meet a witch (Tobey Poser) who can cure her ailment. And, in true horror fashion, things go very, very wrong. Here’s the synopsis for Mother of Flies to go along with the trailer: 

Mickey, played by Zelda Adams, receives a life-threatening medical diagnosis and refuses to accept it. She ventures into the woods with her father, John Adams, to find Solveig (Toby Poser), a secluded woman with a strange connection to death and a deep history with the land. Over three days, Mickey undergoes Solveig’s intense and dangerous death magic rituals. However, healing comes at a price, and what seems like a curse to one may be a blessing to another. As long-held secrets are revealed, the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead starts to disappear, forcing Mickey to confront unsettling truths known only to those facing death.

What Is the Release Date for Mother of Flies? 

I really love that this film was a true family effort – everyone helped create and star in it! It was directed by John Adams, Zelda Adams, and Toby Poser, and features the whole family as the cast: John Adams, Lulu Adams, Zelda Adams, and Toby Poser.

Adding to the cool factor, the music for Mother of Flies is created by the filmmakers’ own band, H6LLB6ND6R. As always, I’ll be cheering for the mysterious woman at the heart of the story. You can stream Mother of Flies on Shudder starting January 23rd.
