Jimmy Kimmel has renewed his contract with ABC and will continue hosting “Jimmy Kimmel Live” through 2027. Sources say the new deal with Disney extends his run by another year beyond his previous agreement, which was set to expire in 2026.
Bloomberg was first to report on the details of the deal. This new contract follows Disney briefly taking Jimmy Kimmel’s show off the air in September.
TV station owners Nexstar and Sinclair protested a segment where Jimmy Kimmel talked about Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist. Kimmel responded to the criticism on Instagram, jokingly celebrating another year of not working with them.
As a big fan of late-night TV, I’m really glad this extension exists! It feels like so many of my favorite shows are getting shorter and shorter because everyone’s switching to streaming, and it’s nice to have something that helps keep them going.
CBS has revealed that Stephen Colbert’s “Late Show” will conclude in May 2025. These days, show producers are increasingly looking at online platforms, such as YouTube, to gauge how well a show is performing.
Disney and Jimmy Kimmel reportedly agreed to a one-year contract extension during the summer, before the issues surrounding a segment featuring Charlie Kirk came to light.
Typical late-night show contracts are about three years long, and Jimmy Kimmel has been thinking about leaving his show recently. He’s hosted “Jimmy Kimmel Live” since January 2003, making him one of the longest-serving late-night hosts currently on television.
As a total movie and TV buff, I’m hearing a lot of chatter that late-night TV is really shifting. It seems like younger audiences just aren’t into tuning in at a specific time anymore – they’d much rather stream things whenever they want, which makes a lot of sense to me!
Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon, and Stephen Colbert still attract viewers and create buzz online. However, these late-night shows are producing fewer episodes and aren’t airing as often. It’s now unusual to see shows on Fridays, with Fallon’s “Tonight Show” being the last to stop broadcasting on that night.
