This Actor Was Called the Perfect Eddie Brock by Venom Co-Creator David Michelinie

David Michelinie, a co-creator of Venom, has publicly stated that Alan Ritchson would be his ideal pick to portray Eddie Brock in a live-action movie.

The comment originated from a post on X by @TheDoctorX11, who had discussed this idea with Michelinie himself.

In a recent post, @TheDoctorX11 shared details of a conversation and included a response from writer Tom Michelinie. According to the post, @TheDoctorX11 had previously shared photos of actor Alan Ritchson – including one of him shirtless and another of him shouting – and suggested he would be a great fit for the role of Eddie Brock/Venom. Michelinie replied, confirming they had the same idea.

I was chatting with David Michelinie, one of the creators of Venom, about who could really nail the role of Eddie Brock. I threw out Alan Ritchson’s name, and you won’t believe it – he actually agreed! He told me he’d already thought Ritchson would be perfect, even posting pictures of him looking all intense and ripped, saying he’d be a great Eddie/Venom. We totally saw eye-to-eye on that one!

Although Venom has already appeared in films, the recent interpretation by writer David Michelinie is noteworthy because the character has been depicted in various ways throughout its history. Currently, Tom Hardy stars as Eddie Brock in Sony’s Venom movies.

Tom Hardy first played the character in the 2018 movie Venom, where his character, Eddie, bonds with an alien lifeform called a symbiote. The two develop a strange partnership, swinging between trying to avoid conflict and fiercely protecting others when trouble arises.

Tom Hardy isn’t the first actor to play Venom. Topher Grace first portrayed Eddie Brock/Venom in the 2007 film Spider-Man 3, giving audiences an initial look at the character. Since then, Venom has appeared in multiple movies, including Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Venom: The Last Dance, and a brief appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Okay, let’s talk Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock. It’s been… divisive, to say the least. I’ve seen a lot of chatter, and it seems people either loved the quirky, almost unhinged energy he brought to the character, or they found it a bit too much, like he was making strange choices that didn’t quite land. Everyone agrees the dynamic between Eddie and Venom itself is fantastic – they really play off each other well. But when it comes to Hardy’s performance as Eddie? That’s where opinions really split. It’s a bold performance, that’s for sure, but not everyone felt it was a successful one.

Stephen Michelinie’s backing of Alan Ritchson has energized fans online. Ritchson is known for portraying strong, serious characters, and many believe he physically resembles the comic book version of Eddie Brock better than previous actors who’ve taken on the role.

This doesn’t guarantee anything about future movies, but it’s an intriguing glimpse of what the character might look like if Sony decided to take a different creative path.
