Renowned anime director Mamoru Hosoda is back with his latest film, Scarlet, his first in four years. This exciting new movie offers a unique, time-traveling twist on the classic story of Shakespeare’s Hamlet, and is set to be both moving and suspenseful.
The film Scarlet, distributed by Sony Pictures Classics, tells the story of a princess in medieval times who is skilled with a sword and determined to avenge her father’s death.
The dangerous nature of her assignment leads to a near-fatal injury, leaving her stranded in a mysterious realm between life and death. There, she encounters a man from our time who helps her recover and discover a path away from bitterness and the desire for vengeance. The story culminates in a difficult choice: when faced with the man who killed her father, can she overcome her hatred and find a purpose beyond revenge?
