James Cameron Praises Netflix’s Latest Surprise Hit

KPop Demon Hunters has quickly become a hit on Netflix in 2025, and the reaction from director James Cameron was particularly surprising.

Empire reports that James Cameron, after viewing the film, called it “a pretty good film.” This simple praise further boosted the movie’s popularity, as it was already gaining international attention.

Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans directed this animated film, which was created by Sony Pictures Animation for Netflix. The story centers around Huntrix, a K-pop girl group with a secret: they’re also demon hunters! Adding to the drama is their rivalry with the Saja Boys, a popular boy band who are secretly demons themselves. Director Maggie Kang shared that the movie was inspired by her love of Korean culture and mythology, blending those themes with the vibrant world of K-pop.

The new animated film, KPop Demon Hunters, premiered on Netflix on June 20th and quickly became a trending topic. Critics and viewers alike have been impressed by its stunning visuals, animation quality, music, and voice acting. According to writers at The A.V. Club and The Wall Street Journal, the film generated so much excitement that Netflix decided to release it in theaters – something they don’t usually do.
