Netflix has told its 82 million U.S. customers that the recent $83 billion purchase of Warner Bros.’ TV and movie studios – including HBO Max and HBO – won’t cause any immediate changes. Netflix says both streaming services will keep running as they do now until the deal is officially complete.
In a message, Netflix assured subscribers that things will stay the same for now. They also told people who already have HBO Max to keep using their accounts, explaining that Netflix and Warner Bros. will continue operating separately until the merger is finalized.
Netflix stated that the acquisition is still pending final approvals. They explained, “There are a few remaining steps, like getting the go-ahead from regulators and shareholders, before everything is official. We’ll provide updates as soon as we have them.”

Reaching a final agreement might be difficult. Approval will likely need to come from several different groups, like the U.S. Department of Justice, the European Union, and various state governments. Plus, lawsuits or other companies making better offers could change the proposed price of $28 per share.
The announcement has sparked varied responses. Notably, opposition to the deal has brought together an unusual group, including Donald Trump, Bernie Sanders, and Hollywood unions – though they each have their own unique concerns. Sanders, for example, argued that Netflix is essentially taking over some of Warner Bros.’ most important properties.
