Stranger Things: Full list of all the songs from first four episodes of Season 5

There’s a special quality to Stranger Things that really draws you in. While not every season is perfect – many don’t think Season 2 is the strongest – the creators, the Duffer brothers, did an amazing job building a believable 1980s world with a strong influence from Stephen King’s style.

The show’s music is fantastic and creates a great atmosphere, arguably on par with the best TV series ever. The musical selections are particularly interesting, and the show notably introduced Kate Bush – a popular alternative artist from the 1980s – to a new generation of listeners.

So, what songs are featured in Season 5? Here’s a clue: Kate Bush’s music will be heavily used again – perhaps a little too much. Some of the other song choices seem questionable.

All the songs from the first four episodes of Stranger Things Season 5

Episode 1 – “The Crawl”

  • “Rockin’ Robin” – Michael Jackson
  • “Pretty in Pink” – Psychedelic Furs
  • “Upside Down” – Diana Ross
  • “Running Up That Hill” – Kate Bush

Ross’s song title feels right for the show Stranger Things, but the song’s actual message doesn’t quite match – unless the Upside Down has mixed feelings about our world! Thankfully, the Psychedelic Furs song is a great addition. You can’t go wrong with Richard Butler and his band.

Episode 2 – “The Vanishing of Holly Wheeler”

  • “Fernando” – ABBA
  • “Running Up That Hill” – Kate Bush
  • “Mr. Sandman” – The Chordettes

While Kate Bush is a fantastic artist, featuring her so prominently in this part of the season feels a bit much. The rest of the soundtrack relies on older songs, which raises the question of whether the show is starting to run low on fresh musical choices. Hopefully, they’ll come up with some new ideas soon.

Episode 3 – “The Turnbow Trap”

  • “To Each His Own” – Freddy Martin
  • “I Think We’re Alone Now” – Tiffany
  • “Oh Yeah” – Yello

Anyone who lived through the 80s, or enjoys movies from that era, probably recognizes the Yello song. Honestly, it felt overplayed even back then, and it hasn’t improved with age. However, the choice to feature Tiffany was a good one.

Episode 4 – “Sorcerer”

  • “Premature Plans” – Elmer Bernstein
  • “Sh-Boom” – The Chords
  • “Running Up That Hill” – Kate Bush

Kate Bush’s song appears frequently in the show, and while its use is understandable given its connection to Max’s storyline, it feels overdone. The show doesn’t need to constantly remind us of the song’s importance every time Max is present.
