Since its debut, The Boys has become a massive success for Prime Video, leading to the creation of a larger franchise. The first spin-off, Gen V, demonstrated the potential for further exploration within the world of Vought International. Unlike many spin-offs that fall short, Gen V quickly gained a similar level of popularity and critical acclaim as the original series. But just how are these two shows linked?
As a huge fan of both The Boys and Gen V, I’m so excited about how these shows connect! Season one of Gen V takes place right after everything went down in The Boys season three, and before season four begins. Season two will bridge the gap between The Boys seasons four and five. The show centers around Marie Moreau and a group of young superheroes-in-training at Godolkin University – basically, it’s where they groom the next generation of The Seven. But things quickly get complicated. We soon learn that some scientists at the university are secretly working on a virus designed to eliminate supes, and it’s a really intense plot!
Here’s how Gen V and The Boys connect through story and characters
The first season of Gen V ends with Homelander attacking Marie and her friends, leading to their capture and imprisonment in a mysterious location. Simultaneously, the fourth season of The Boys begins with Butcher learning about the supe-killing virus that originated in Gen V. By the season’s end, Butcher defeats Victoria Neuman and secures the last remaining dose of the virus.
The shows are connected through characters and settings. For instance, Victoria Neuman’s daughter attends the Red River Institute, which is also where Marie Moreau spent her childhood. Season 2 of Gen V includes appearances by characters from The Boys, such as Starlight and The Deep, further linking the two series together.
The second season of Gen V concluded on October 22, 2025, and directly leads into the events of The Boys season 5. The finale saw Marie, Jordan, Emma, and Andre teaming up with Starlight and A-Train. According to franchise creator Eric Kripke, these young heroes will play a significant role in the upcoming final season.
Kripke revealed that ‘Gen V’ will continue beyond the conclusion of ‘The Boys’. He explained they aren’t treating the current season of ‘Gen V’ as its last, and that there are more stories they want to tell. He also shared with Entertainment Weekly that he has a plan for a third season of ‘Gen V’ that he’s excited about, describing it as both surprising and emotionally impactful.
