‘Black Phone 2’ (2025)
Director Scott Derrickson, who brought us ‘The Black Phone’, is back with a sequel, co-written with C. Robert Cargill and based on characters by Joe Hill. Mason Thames and Madeleine McGraw return as Finney and Gwen, and Ethan Hawke is once again The Grabber. New to the cast are Demián Bichir and Jeremy Davies. Pär M. Ekberg handles the cinematography, and the film is a Blumhouse and Crooked Highway production. It will be released in theaters on October 17, 2025.
The story follows Gwen as she begins having strange dreams connected to boys at a winter camp, which pulls Finney back into danger and hints at the return of The Grabber. The film debuted at Fantastic Fest in September and has been praised for continuing the themes of trauma and survival from the first movie. It will be released in theaters across the U.S. on October 17, 2025.
‘The Astronaut’ (2025)
Jess Varley wrote and directed ‘The Astronaut,’ a new film starring Kate Mara as NASA astronaut Sam Walker. The cast also includes Laurence Fishburne, Gabriel Luna, and Ivana Miličević. Brad Fuller, Eric B. Fleischman, Chris Abernathy, and Cameron Fuller produced the 91-minute movie, with music by Jacques Brautbar, and Vertical is distributing it. ‘The Astronaut’ will be released in theaters on October 17, 2025.
The film centers on Sam, who crash-lands on Earth and is taken to a secure facility for observation and recovery. She’s convinced that something dangerous from her home world followed her. Critics and previews highlight the movie’s focus on personal horror and a strong performance by the lead actress, and it will be released in theaters on October 17, 2025.
‘Guts & Glory’ (2025– )
A new horror competition series, executive produced with special effects master Greg Nicotero, will stream on Shudder. The show features contestants facing terrifying, realistic nightmare situations – such as a haunted hospital – over six episodes. It premieres on Shudder starting October 14, 2025.
I’m so excited for this! From what I’ve read, the game is going to drop you into these incredibly detailed environments where you’ll face challenges based on amazing practical effects and really unexpected story turns. And get this – Greg Nicotero, the special effects genius, is actually *in* the game, pulling the strings as a character! It’s finally launching on Shudder on October 14th, 2025, and I’ve been counting down the days!
‘Ghost Adventures’ (2008– )
The popular paranormal series ‘Ghost Adventures’ features Zak Bagans and his team – Aaron Goodwin, Billy Tolley, and Jay Wasley – investigating supposedly haunted places. They lock themselves in these locations from dusk until dawn, documenting their experiences. Originally airing on Travel Channel, the show is now a part of Discovery’s programming and continues to stream on Discovery platforms. A new episode is scheduled to air on Discovery Channel on October 15, 2025.
This show combines in-depth historical investigation with interviews and current footage, all brought to life through creative audio and video editing. The main cast and overall story stay the same throughout the series, and the newest episode will air on Discovery Channel on October 15, 2025.
‘Vampirina: Teenage Vampire’ (2025– )
Inspired by the Disney Junior show ‘Vampirina’ and the books by Anne Marie Pace, this new live-action series follows Vee Hauntley, a teenage vampire who attends a performing arts boarding school for humans. Randi Barnes developed the show, with Dan Cross and David Hoge serving as showrunners. The cast includes Kenzi Richardson as Vee, along with Jiwon Lee, Shaun Dixon, Milo Maharlika, and Faith Hedley. It will premiere on Disney+ on October 15, 2025.
The show centers around Vee, who is keeping her identity a secret, and her overprotective father who enlists the ghost Demi to look after her. Disney has rated the series TV-G, and each episode will feature music with a corresponding soundtrack available. After premiering on Disney Channel in September, the complete first season will be available to stream on Disney+ starting October 15, 2025.
‘Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy’ (2025)
This new series tells the story of serial killer John Wayne Gacy, detailing his crimes and how investigators eventually caught him. Created by Patrick Macmanus, the show features Michael Chernus as Gacy, and also stars Gabriel Luna, Michael Angarano, James Badge Dale, Chris Sullivan, and Marin Ireland. All episodes will be available on Peacock starting October 18, 2025.
The series highlights the contrast between John Wayne Gacy’s public persona and the experiences of his victims, while also examining the mistakes made by the authorities investigating the case. Promotional trailers showcase key moments in the police investigation and the legal arguments presented in court. All episodes will be available to stream on Peacock starting October 18, 2025.
‘The WeedHacker Massacre’ (2025)
Okay, so I just heard about this new movie called ‘The WeedHacker Massacre’ and it sounds *amazing*. It’s an indie horror-comedy from Ray Spivey and Jody Stelzig, and the premise is wild: a film crew decides to shoot their movie at the location where a bunch of unsolved murders happened, and naturally, that wakes up the killer again! Apparently, it’s a really clever satire of terrible remakes, full of that self-aware, meta humor I love. It’s coming to streaming on October 17, 2025, and I’m already marking my calendar!
Most reviews and reports indicate the movie runs about 95 minutes and draws inspiration from classic horror films, particularly those connected to ‘The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.’ If you’re looking for new independent horror to watch at home, it will be available to stream on October 17, 2025.
‘Your Host’ (2025)
Okay, so I just heard about this new horror movie called ‘Your Host,’ and it sounds seriously twisted! It’s from a director named D.W. Medoff, and the basic idea is four friends get kidnapped during a birthday getaway and end up trapped in this insane, game-show-like maze. Apparently, some creepy guy is running the show, and they’re being stalked by footage from an old VHS camcorder – super unsettling! The cast is great too, with Jackie Earle Haley leading the way, alongside Ella-Rae Smith and a few other really promising actors. I saw it described as a really intense cat-and-mouse chase, and it’s hitting streaming services on October 14th, 2025. I’m definitely adding it to my watchlist!
Critics and descriptions of the film highlight a growing series of difficult puzzles and challenges with time limits, forcing characters to make tough ethical decisions while being watched. This places the movie firmly within the horror subgenre of survival games. It will be available to stream starting October 14, 2025.
‘Mar.IA’ (2023)
‘Mar.IA’ (originally titled ‘María’) is an Argentine film directed by Gabriel Grieco and Nicanor Loreti. The story centers around a famous adult film actress who disappears in a car accident and then reappears years later, leading to a dark and unsettling series of events within the adult film industry. The film stars Sofía Gala Castiglione, Malena Sánchez, and Juan Palomino. Gabriel Grieco and Nicanor Loreti directed, with cinematography by Mariano Suárez and original music by Diego Hensel. It will be available to stream starting October 14, 2025.
This film follows a director who tries to cover up an accidental death on set by continuing to promote his lead actor as if he’s still alive. It’s a dark and satirical blend of crime thriller and horror, and will be available to stream on October 14, 2025.
‘The Mannequin’ (2025)
‘The Mannequin,’ directed by John Berardo, follows Liana Rojas (Isabella Gomez), a stylist’s assistant, as she tries to uncover the truth behind her sister’s death. The investigation takes place in a historic Los Angeles factory rumored to be haunted by the ghost of an old serial killer who used to work as a headshot photographer. The film also stars Lindsay LaVanchy, Krystle Martin, Jack Sochet, and others, and will be available to stream starting October 14, 2025.
The new horror film, produced by The Mannequin LLC and other independent companies, runs about 85 to 90 minutes. It’s being promoted with the tagline “she likes to watch.” Fans can stream it starting October 14, 2025.
