Okay, so I’m hearing some big news that could really shake things up for us gamers. Apparently, Paramount Skydance is trying to buy Warner Bros. Discovery – which would be huge for movies, streaming, *and* gaming. But it sounds like Warner Bros. isn’t having it right now. Bloomberg is reporting they turned down Paramount’s initial offer, saying it wasn’t enough money. So, the deal’s on hold for the moment, but it’s definitely something I’m keeping an eye on!
Warner Bros. Discovery’s leaders think splitting their movie and streaming services could make the company more valuable. They’re hoping this will attract a better purchase offer, so a sale is still possible.
Skydance Games has two video game studios. One studio recently launched the VR game Behemoth. The other is currently developing two new games based on the Marvel and Star Wars universes, with Amy Hennig and Julian Beak leading the projects.
We haven’t heard anything about Hennig’s Star Wars project, but Beak’s Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is currently scheduled to come out in 2026.
If acquired, Warner Bros.’ valuable collection of gaming studios and franchises – like Avalanche Software (known for Hogwarts Legacy), Rocksteady Studios (creators of the Batman Arkham and Suicide Squad games), and TT Games (the LEGO game series) – would become part of Skydance.
