It’s been announced that Warwick Davis is returning to his role as Professor Filius Flitwick for HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter TV series. Davis originally played this character from Hogwarts in the original movies and will now reprise the role in the upcoming show, scheduled to air in 2027.
To date, it’s been verified that Davis will be the sole actor from the initial films who will reprise his character in the upcoming remake.
The announcement of his return was made public during the yearly Hogwarts reunion on September 1, a gathering where significant updates about the franchise are often disclosed.
In addition to Davis, it was also announced that some fresh faces have joined the cast at Hogwarts. Elijah Oshin is set to portray Dean Thomas, Finn Stephens will step into the shoes of Vincent Crabbe, and William Nash has been selected to play Gregory Goyle.
On the team side, Sirine Saba takes up the role of Professor Pomona Sprout, Richard Durden becomes the spectral Professor Cuthbert Binns, and Bríd Brennan is cast as Madam Poppy Pomfrey. At Gringotts, Leigh Gill will play the part of Griphook.
Over the summer, HBO has been expanding their list of confirmed names, and here are some big casting announcements: John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost as Hagrid.
Earlier this year, it was announced that newcomers McLaughlin, Stout, and Stanton would be portraying the roles of Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger, respectively.
The production of this series has been ongoing for several years now. Back in 2021, work on this project kicked off, and our ambition is to develop a loyal screen version of J.K. Rowling’s novels that will span an entire decade. Francesca Gardiner serves as the head of this project, while Mark Mylod takes charge of directing. Filming commenced in July 2025 under the codename Dark Train, at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden – the very same location where the initial eight Harry Potter movies were filmed.
As I eagerly anticipate the upcoming cinematic journey, I’m thrilled to share that the production for this highly-anticipated series is scheduled to last until 2026, with a captivating first season comprising eight episodes. Mark your calendars, as this visual masterpiece is slated to debut in early 2027, gracing our screens on HBO in the United States. Can’t wait to embark on this cinematic adventure with you all!
For dedicated followers, the news that Warwick Davis will reprise his role as Professor Flitwick is undoubtedly a significant point of excitement. This marks the first instance where an actor from the initial series has been officially confirmed to return to their previous character. With a blend of new talent and familiar names, HBO’s remake promises to be one of its most ambitious projects thus far.
