Snoop Dogg says he got caught off guard when he took his grandson to see Disney Pixar’s Lightyear.
On the “It’s Giving” podcast, the rapper shared that the film’s portrayal of a same-sex relationship left him with questions he hadn’t anticipated having to address.
What did Snoop Dog say about Disney’s Lightyear?
Snoop mentioned, “I took my grandson to watch a movie featuring Buzz Lightyear, right? That’s the one. Kiki Palmer is in it, she plays a role similar to a daughter. Oh, and interestingly, her character has two moms in the storyline.
That was when his grandson turned to him in confusion.
During a movie, my grandson seemed confused and asked, something like, ‘Grandpa Snoop, how does she have a baby with a woman? She’s a woman,’ which he found perplexing.
Caught off guard, the rapper admitted he didn’t have an easy explanation.
Gosh! I wasn’t expecting this, I only came here to watch the movie. Listen buddy, let’s focus on the film now,” he said, chuckling as he tried to guide his grandson.
Snoop added that the moment left him uneasy.
He admitted that he was caught off guard… After all, these are children who tend to inquire about things, and at the moment, I didn’t have a response,” he clarified. “I was merely intending to rest and enjoy a film. Yet, they disrupted my peaceful slumber.

Lightyear’s Box Office Failure
2022’s premiere of Lightyear didn’t just spark debate over its material, it also fell short in ticket sales at the movie theater.
Initially projected to earn $85 million within the U.S., the spinoff featuring Chris Evans’ voice debuted with a disappointingly low domestic box office of $51 million. Furthermore, its global earnings totaled $226.4 million, falling far short of the billion-dollar grosses achieved by the Toy Story films.
For a Pixar film coming off the Toy Story brand, those numbers were considered a major flop.
Disney Shifts Back to Tim Allen for Toy Story 5
Following the controversy, Disney will be adopting a more classic style for the upcoming addition to the series.
According to recent announcements, Disney-Pixar is set to release Toy Story 5, with Tim Allen reprising his role as Buzz Lightyear, joined by Tom Hanks as the lovable Woody, and Joan Cusack returning as Jessie.
In this latest movie, our protagonist Bonnie, aged eight, receives a new toy tablet which causes quite a stir in the playroom. Pixar hinted at the narrative as a tale of “Toys versus Technology,” with the established toys encountering a formidable foe in an intelligent gadget.
At the Annecy Animation Film Festival, there was a brief, two-minute scene unveiled, depicting action figures resembling Buzz Lightyear characters stranded on an uninhabited island. In this tale, they collaborate diligently to find their way back to Star Command.
At the occasion, Pixar too commemorated the 30th birthday of Toy Story, emphasizing that the initial 1995 film played a crucial role in establishing the studio and revolutionizing animation for all time.
Toy Story 5 hits theaters on June 19, 2026.
