Ah, Parag Agrawal, the former CEO of Twitter-now X, as if a mere letter change could erase the drama of his fall. He’s back, folks, but not with a redemption arc, no, he’s launched a startup. His new creation, Parallel Web Systems Inc., is here to disrupt the tech world by helping artificial intelligence agents scavenge the web, gather information, and process it with a speed that would leave mere mortals in the dust.
Agrawal, in his usual humble fashion, announced on LinkedIn (because where else?) that his product, the Deep Research API, does what AI models like OpenAI’s GPT-5 can only dream of-outperforming them on certain research benchmarks. The man is on fire! Or perhaps, like a phoenix, he’s risen from the ashes of his Twitter ousting… But let’s not get carried away.
“We already power millions of research tasks every day,” Agrawal boasted, sounding like a tech evangelist in the midst of a corporate sermon. He’s got a public firm on board automating human workflows, and coding agents scurrying around like AI ants, fetching documents and debugging. A humble $30 million in funding? Check. A team of 25 highly motivated individuals? Check. A piece of the future? Well, he certainly thinks so.
Parallel is Agrawal’s grand re-entry into the tech world since that little kerfuffle with Elon Musk. In case you missed it, Musk swept into Twitter like an overenthusiastic tornado, booting Agrawal and other executives out of their cushy chairs in October 2022. And just like that, Twitter became X-because, apparently, why not? The drama didn’t stop there. Agrawal and co. filed a lawsuit, claiming they were stiffed of about $128 million in severance pay. A district court said, “Let’s take this to trial,” but the final chapter is still unwritten.
AI? More Like Agrawal’s Next Big Gamble
In his own words, Agrawal “knew” AI was going to be his next venture. He’d built machine learning models at Twitter when he was CTO. Then, when the inevitable change came in 2021 and he ascended to CEO, he probably had a few sleepless nights-who wouldn’t?-but eventually pivoted, and here he is, the self-proclaimed prophet of AI.
After his Twitter “departure,” Agrawal did what any self-respecting tech mogul would do: binge on AI research, write some code, and turn down offers to “clean up shit” from struggling firms. Because why settle for the mundane when you could be changing the world with AI agents, right? His vision is clear. Humans? Pfft, not the real users of the internet anymore. It’s AI agents who will rule the roost.
AI Agents: The Future is Now (According to Agrawal)
Agrawal’s grand vision? The internet will soon be flooded with more AI agents than humans. We’re talking about deploying 50 agents per person, if not more. Just picture it-your AI assistants browsing the internet on your behalf, doing all your digital dirty work. You won’t even need to lift a finger. Agrawal’s so sure of this future, he predicts it’ll happen next year. Next year, folks. Better get ready to delegate your life.
Coinbase Developers Are on the Same Page (Sort of)
And guess who agrees with Agrawal? Coinbase developers. In a rare moment of tech synergy, they too believe that autonomous AI agents are the future-well, the future of Ethereum, to be specific. Coinbase’s Kevin Leffew and Lincoln Murr believe these AI agents will be the blockchain’s biggest power users. Fancy that! It’s like we’re all just waiting for the AI takeover, one blockchain transaction at a time.
According to these digital prophets, a little-known HTTP web standard combined with Ethereum Improvement Proposal 3009 could launch a new era of e-commerce. Imagine AI agents executing stablecoin transfers without any human interference. This is the future we’re being promised: self-driving taxis paying for their own fuel and AI models monetizing content on demand. Because, of course, that’s the logical next step, right?
