Did Alan Cumming Reveal Comic-Accurate Costume for AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY?

In the unexpected cast lineup for “Avengers: Doomsday,” Alan Cumming reappeared as Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler, a character he previously portrayed in “X2: X-Men United.” Since Cumming didn’t return for any subsequent “X-Men” films, his inclusion in “Doomsday” came as a pleasant surprise. Moreover, it seems that Cumming is thrilled to be back, as he revealed that at some point during the film, he will engage in a fight with Pedro Pascal portraying Reed Richards. Furthermore, according to Comic Book, Cumming has hinted on social media that Nightcrawler wears his iconic Marvel Comics costume in the movie, which might suggest a faithful adaptation of the character’s comic book appearance.

In Cumming’s post, among the shared images were his latest prosthetic teeth that resembled mutant ones. However, what truly caught everyone’s attention was a labeled box marked “Confidential Waste.” Attached to it were pictures of Nightcrawler sporting his classic comic book attire, armed with swords. This distinctive appearance was originally conceptualized by artist Dave Cockrum in 1975. Unlike many X-Men characters, Nightcrawler seldom altered his costume, as the saying goes, “If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it.” Another image also surfaced, seemingly showing Cumming dressed in the character’s black and red outfit from the Uncanny X-Men comics. Although it appears to be a digitally edited mockup, it seems to depict the actor donning a costume reminiscent of his comic book persona.

As an avid X-Men fan, I’m thrilled about the potential revelations! If Nightcrawler dons his comic book costume in the upcoming project, it seems plausible that the rest of the team might follow suit. After a wait of 24 years, seeing Hugh Jackman in the mask in Deadpool & Wolverine was a treat. If Nightcrawler appears in his X-Men attire, perhaps Cyclops will finally bid farewell to the black leather. And here’s hoping that when Marvel announces Jean Grey and Storm, they’ll sport their iconic original costumes too. Between The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Superman, we’re stepping into an era of live-action superhero costumes proudly embracing their comic book roots. It’s high time the X-Men join the party!
