It’s no longer the era of pristine, spotless sneakers. Leading brands in the sneaker market are embracing a worn-in aesthetic with contemporary pre-distressed designs such as Nike’s .SWOOSH AF1 “Dirty Triple White,” A$AP Rocky x PUMA Inhale OG, and New Balance’s “Dirty” 1000.

To express their take on the trend, New Balance opts to use one of its vintage running shoes as the base and employs its distinctive silver color scheme. This revamped version from 2024 takes inspiration from the original 1999 design through detailed technical overlays and a strong Y2K vibe. The shoe features mesh uppers, leather accents, and a substantial segmented sole that includes ABZORB shock-absorbing technology.

To make the model appear worn, dirt-like marks and scratches are distributed all over its body. A convincing smoky stain graces the white mesh, while the leather sections exhibit a vintage patina. In other areas, dirty midsoles accentuate the sculptural design of the cushioning, and black outsoles form the base for black branding on the upper portions.

Despite its monotone appearance, the newly revealed New Balance 1000 in “Grey Metallic” shares a subtle uniformity across its dark gray form. To other sneaker sellers, two shades of grey might seem repetitive, but for New Balance, this decision harks back to their heritage. In fact, they celebrated this color with their “Grey Days” event in May, which involves the launch of special products, events, and tales that honor their signature grey shade.

2025 calls, and I’m ready to step up my game! On August 1st, the New Balance 1000 “Dirt” drops on their online store, and I can hardly contain my excitement. Check out the gallery above for a sneak peek at this rugged beauty that promises to take my gaming sessions to new heights!
