It’s well-known that FromSoftware is highly admired for creating timeless games like Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro, Elden Ring, and more recently, Elden Ring: Nightreign. We know that FromSoftware has plans to bring Elden Ring to Switch 2 with the Tarnished edition, and they are also developing a multiplayer exclusive for Switch 2 called Duskbloods. Although these upcoming projects have been confirmed, there’s been a leak suggesting FromSoftware might release their next unannounced game as early as next year.
Leak claims FromSoftware’s next game is in the “advanced stages of production”
FromSoftware’s upcoming, as-yet-unnamed game, known internally by the code FMC, might be playable across various platforms, such as PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and perhaps even the rumored Switch 2. The information comes from MP1st, who have hinted that FMC will be available on multiple devices simultaneously, although they haven’t specified exactly how many platforms it will target. This distinction rules out FMC being Duskbloods, which is exclusive to the Switch 2.
Besides the fact that it goes by its FMC codename and is designed for multiple platforms, MP1st asserted, “Given the nature of the information source, all signs suggest the project is so advanced that, barring any delays, we may be able to play it as early as next year.
According to MP1st’s analysis, the project codenamed FMC might be a potential remake or remaster of one of the Dark Souls games. This assumption is based on the fact that all FromSoftware codenames beginning with ‘F’ have been associated with either Dark Souls or the Armored Core series. MP1st doesn’t think it’s another Armored Core game, and since Hidetaka Miyazaki expressed a reluctance to create a new entry in the Dark Souls series, they believe it’s more likely that FMC is a revamped version of an existing Dark Souls title. They suggest that Dark Souls 3 could be the most probable candidate given that remasters for the first two games have already been released, and Nick ‘Shpeshal Nick’ Baker reported last year that a remastered Dark Souls 3 is in development.
According to MP1st’s interpretation, it’s speculation that the upcoming game FMC could be a remaster of Dark Souls or connected in some way, as FromSoftware has used similar codenames in the past. However, they emphasize that FMC might just as easily be an entirely new project. It would be fantastic if FromSoftware released a fresh game next year, but keep in mind that Duskblood isn’t confirmed, and unexpected internal delays can happen.
According to updates from FromSoftware, they’ve pledged to create more solo gaming adventures after focusing heavily on multiplayer in their recent titles like Nightreign and Duskblood.
