James Gunn unveiled the first poster for Supergirl a short while ago, following closely on the heels of the launch of Superman. The director hinted at the upcoming film by showing a glimpse of it in his recent production, during which viewers caught a glimpse of a tipsy Supergirl within her fortress of solitude, attempting to find her pet dog, Krypto.
During an exchange with ScreenRant, the movie director and DC’s joint leader hinted at some organizational challenges surrounding Supergirl’s production.
In the initial image, we see the main character leisurely enjoying a beverage next to a sign saying “Look Out.” Contrastingly, the movie’s slogan, unlike that of Superman’s (“Look Up”), advises us to gaze downward.
James Gunn opened up about Supergirl
During an interview with media portal Gunn, it was disclosed that Supergirl hails from an entirely distinct background compared to Superman. James described her as being quite disorganized, saying, “She’s in a real state. She’s a complete wreck.
In simpler terms, he added that unlike Superman, she comes from a vastly contrasting upbringing, one that was far more challenging. While Superman enjoyed a nurturing environment with loving and healthy parents, her background is distinctively different. As a result, she has developed differently than her cousin.
In a different part of the interview, the director also shared insights into the extent of Kara Zor-El’s past on Krypton that will feature in Supergirl.
It’s quite plausible that we might revisit Krypton in the future. I believe these flashbacks play a significant role in shaping the distinct personalities of the characters, with Clark having an exceptionally joyful upbringing.
Gunn emphasized that this character benefited greatly from having loving parents in a relaxed home environment, making him one of the least troubled superheroes compared to others.
In the narrative of our upcoming venture, Supergirl embarks on a cosmic journey to mark her 21st birthday. During this voyage, she encounters a character named Ruthye, and the two of them unwittingly become embroiled in a lethal pursuit.
In this film, you’ll find actors like Milly Alcock, Eve Ridley, Matthias Schoenaerts, Jason Momoa, David Krumholtz, and Emily Beecham making up the star-studded lineup.
Supergirl: Woman of Wonder releases in theaters on June 26, 2026.
