2025’s Major Hit Film Just Arrived on Peacock

The live-action movie adaptation of *How to Train Your Dragon*, from DreamWorks and Universal, started streaming on Peacock on October 10th.

The new movie closely follows the story of the classic animated film and has become a major success, bringing in $635 million globally, with $263 million earned in the United States. After its release in theaters in June, fans can now enjoy it at home, along with all three original animated movies, which are all streaming on Peacock.

As a huge fan of the animated movies, I was thrilled to learn that Dean DeBlois – the director and one of the writers behind those films – is also taking the helm for this live-action version. It’s reassuring to know someone who understands the heart of the story is leading the way.

The film features Mason Thames, Nico Parker, Gabriel Howell, Julian Dennison, Bronwyn James, Harry Trevaldwyn, Peter Serafinowicz, and Nick Frost. Gerard Butler reprises his role as Stoick the Vast, and John Powell, the composer of the original animated films’ music, returns to score this new movie.

The live-action remake was first announced in February 2023, and the cast was confirmed by January 2024. Filming happened in Belfast, Northern Ireland, from January to May.

How to Train Your Dragon first appeared at CinemaCon in April and then hit theaters on June 13th. Both critics and viewers loved the movie, making it the most successful film in the How to Train Your Dragon series and one of the highest-earning films that combines live-action and animation.

Fans won’t have to wait long for more – a follow-up movie to the second animated film is coming to theaters on June 11, 2027.
