12 great artists from the 1960s and 1970s still producing fantastic music

As a music enthusiast who grew up during the golden age of rock and roll, I can confidently say that these 12 artists are nothing short of legends. Their music has been my soundtrack for most of my life, and it’s fascinating to see them still going strong after all these years.

It appears that the number of emerging artists and musical groups is increasing rapidly, which isn’t a new phenomenon, just something we have more access to now. While many fail to make it big, exceptional talents such as Bob Dylan continue creating and performing, even when some of their peers are already in retirement age.

Despite experiencing pauses, changes in membership, dissolution, and reunions, their fervor for music – not forgetting financial incentives – remains intact…for now.

Simultaneously, certain artists, since their debut as bands or solo acts, haven’t stopped creating music and continue to produce quality work. Alongside the Nobel laureate pictured in this article’s header, the following dozen may yet have more to share – some through recorded songs, some on stage, and some doing both.

These 12 musical artists from the 1960s and 1970s are still churning out great music

Paul McCartney

This individual is a timeless music icon who began performing in the late 1950s and has consistently been recording and performing live ever since. Time and again, he has demonstrated his extraordinary musical talent, whether on stage or in the studio. Remarkably, his enthusiasm for composing music remains undiminished, as evidenced by his spontaneous performances at intimate clubs whenever the urge strikes him.

Beach Boys

If we trace the Beach Boys’ history back to 1961, it might seem that they should have retired from performing and recording by now, especially given the passing of brothers Dennis and Carl Wilson, Brian Wilson’s health issues leading him to leave the band, right? However, Mike Love, who continues to carry the Beach Boys legacy on stages worldwide, sees things differently.

Rolling Stones

Approximately six decades have passed since these “grandpas” first began their journey together. Along the way, original members Brian Jones and Charlie Watts departed, Bill Wayman left, while others like Mick Taylor joined and then left again. Despite appearing their age, Jagger and Richards and the rest of the group continue to deliver impressive performances, both on record and on stage, which makes it seem as though they have no intention of slowing down anytime soon.

Neil Young

A devoted Neil Young follower might find it quite a task, spanning an entire day, to tally up all the records he’s released, either solo or with various bands, let alone the number of concerts they’ve attended. However, Young continues to exhibit remarkable creative vigor, managing not only to keep this pace but also to express something meaningful.

Steve Miller Band

At one point, Miller’s band was not among Miles Davis’ preferred acts after they opened for him, but the pioneer of early psychedelic music who later dominated FM radio in the 70s has always had a musical trick up his sleeve, both in the studio and on stage, a skill that endures to this day.

Santana

Since the release of his band’s debut self-titled album and an outstanding performance at Woodstock in 1969, Carlos Santana has consistently graced the stage. Despite moments when his recorded work didn’t receive much attention, it was clear during live performances that he is, and remains to be, one of rock music’s greats.

John Cale

From modern classical music to Velvet Underground and then to a practically immaculate solo career, John Cale is still a brilliant musical presence, both in the studio and on stage, coming up with some excellent albums and great concerts recently.

Peter Gabriel

Stepping out of the glamorous Genesis costumes back in the late ’60s, I, Gabriel, embarked on a remarkable recording journey that has only grown more captivating over the years. My stage presence remains as spellbinding today as it was then, fueled by an artistic fire that continues to burn brightly within me.

Bruce Springsteen

Despite current health concerns, Springsteen continues to be a formidable force in the studio and on stage, unwilling to relinquish either role. Moreover, with his recent collection of live recordings, he still ranks among the top live performers today.

Bonnie Raitt

In the 1970s, Bonnie Raitt’s mix of blues, soul, and rock didn’t gain immediate popularity, but her impressive guitar skills and powerful voice, especially noticeable onstage, have remained a constant throughout her career until today.

Eagles

Regardless of whether you adore them or find them tiresome, one iconic band from the early 1970s country rock era, known for “Hotel California,” continues to perform, despite numerous lineup changes and the demise of Glen Frey. Although their recorded music has become less frequent, their live performances remain a spectacle worth witnessing.

Human League

Regarding their music evolution, from the early experimental electronica to the electro-pop genre they’ve continued to excel in, this Sheffield, UK band may have taken a recording hiatus, yet they continue to captivate global audiences without a hitch on various stages worldwide.
