Disney’s Zootopia 2 is having a phenomenal start, achieving record-breaking box office numbers worldwide, particularly in the US and China. It earned an impressive $556 million in its first five days, making it the biggest opening weekend for an animated movie ever – surpassing the previous record of $378 million held by The Super Mario Bros. Movie, according to Deadline Hollywood.
Over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend in North America, Zootopia 2 earned $156 million. This was the second-highest opening ever for the holiday, following Moana 2 from last year, which earned $225 million.
China is playing a huge role in the film’s success. Just on Saturday, it made $104 million there, which is more than any other single day for a Hollywood movie in China – even beating Avengers: Endgame. After just five days, the film has earned $272 million in China. Experts believe it could make over $500 million there, and potentially even break Endgame‘s record of $632 million – the highest total ever for a Hollywood film in the Chinese market.
