The animated movie Zootopia 2 has earned more at the box office than the film Superman. So far, Zootopia 2 has made $617 million globally, slightly surpassing Superman’s total of $616.7 million.
As a huge animation fan, I was thrilled to see how well Zootopia 2 did! Here in the US and Canada, it brought in $170 million, but the really big numbers came from overseas – a massive $447 million! It’s amazing to see a film resonate with audiences globally.
By comparison, Superman earned $354.2 million domestically (in the U.S. and Canada) and $262.5 million internationally. According to Variety, the film was projected to make around $125 million in profit from theaters.
I was so excited for Zootopia 2! Everyone predicted it would earn over $125 million domestically and $270 million worldwide during the Thanksgiving weekend, but it totally blew those numbers away. It actually made $158 million here in North America and a massive $560.3 million globally in just its opening weekend! That made it the biggest animated movie opening ever, and the fourth biggest opening of any movie, period. I’m thrilled for the team!
As a movie fan, I was blown away by how huge this film was in China! It absolutely crushed the box office there, bringing in $271.6 million just on its opening weekend. What’s even more incredible is that it was the first Hollywood movie ever to make over $100 million in a single day – that happened on Saturday, November 29th. It’s a record-breaking achievement, honestly.
The movie is receiving rave reviews from critics. Rotten Tomatoes reports that 92% of 173 critics gave it a positive rating, calling it a clever and heartwarming adventure that strengthens the beloved partnership of Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde. Metacritic also shows generally positive feedback, awarding it a score of 73 out of 100 based on 39 reviews.
Viewers are loving the new movie! It received an “A” grade from CinemaScore, just like the original Zootopia, and PostTrak found that 87% of people enjoyed it, with 65% saying they’d recommend it to others.
Zootopia 2 isn’t just a box office success; it’s demonstrating the power of animated films to resonate with audiences worldwide.
