Netflix’s latest suspenseful series, titled “Zero Day,” features a star-studded lineup led by Robert De Niro. The show has been met with divided opinions among viewers because it appears to lack a compelling storyline as per certain critics. On the other hand, some viewers have been engrossed and unable to tear themselves away from it.
In this show, Robert De Niro plays the role of ex-President George Mullen, Lizzy Caplan portrays Congresswoman Alexandra Mullen, Jesse Plemons is Roger Carlson, Joan Allen takes on the character Sheila Mullen, Connie Britton stars as Valerie Whitesell, Bill Camp acts as Director Lasch, Dan Stevens plays Evan Green, and Angela Bassett appears as President Evelyn Mitchell.
81-year-old Robert De Niro makes his TV premiere as former President George Mullen, brought back to investigate a nationwide cyberattack resulting in numerous fatalities. While some viewers have commended the six-episode limited series helmed by Lesli Linka Glatter (Love & Death), others have voiced concerns over its leisurely tempo, questionable political aspects, and lackluster writing.
A user on platform X shared their thoughts on the first three episodes, stating, “I’ve finished watching the initial three installments. It seems to be filled with well-known personalities throughout. Although it leans towards a slower pace, that doesn’t bother me. The narrative might not offer anything groundbreaking, but a solid crime-political thriller never disappoints.
A viewer from X posted, “I’ve wrapped up Zero Day! It was quite good, a solid series with plenty of thought-provoking content that had me scratching my head at times (even though it started off feeling slow to me, but that might just be me). The performances by Robert de Niro, Angela Bassett, and Connie Britton were exceptional – simply fantastic!
Yet, some were quick to note the resemblance of the storyline to contemporary situations. A user on platform X remarked, “I enjoyed it immensely; it was an astute reflection of today’s events: YouTube personalities inciting extremist movements, tech moguls aligning with political candidates to seize control of the nation. Thankfully, they don’t succeed.
A different user commented, “ZERO DAY was a poorly written and disorganized political thriller. It seemed hasty and lacked cohesion. It attempted to mimic ‘The Manchurian Candidate,’ but its characters felt like stereotypes. They were heavy-handed, obvious, and condescending… #ZeroDay continually undermined itself.
Despite differing views on the storyline and an eccentric cast, the six-episode series “Zero Day” starring Robert De Niro can now be streamed on Netflix.
