In the opening chapter of Zenshu, I was introduced as a budding animator named Natsuko Hirose. At present, I find myself grappling with a challenging new project. Rumors begin to swirl about an animator’s untimely demise due to food poisoning. Tragically, it happens to me too while engrossed in watching A Tale of Perishing. Instead of my usual reality, I now find myself awakening within the arid landscape of the anime’s world.
To clarify, the Nine Heroes thought Natsuko resembled a gremlin. Warned them about an approaching Void army attack, she conjured up a massive figure using a mystical drawing desk to protect the town and Unio. Overwhelmed, she disclosed her past, but it was misconstrued by an animator from the realm of ‘Reality’.
In Zenshu Episode 2, Natsuko gets an invitation from Baobab, the seer of the Last Town, to join the Nine Soldiers. But, there’ll be a disagreement between her and Luke later on. As she tries to find a means to return home, memories of the story “A Tale of Perishing” resurface, which hints at another impending peril for the Last Town.
In the second episode of Defend, Zenshu, set to air in Japan on January 12, 2025, at 11:45 pm local time, according to the anime’s official website, she ultimately understands that although she can’t go back, safeguarding the town and its inhabitants justifies putting her life on the line.
