According to a source with a history of accurate information – including details about the Daredevil: Born Again changes and the true conclusion of The Flash – discussions happened about a potential crossover movie featuring characters from both DC and Marvel universes.

I’ll admit this one is a long shot, but the timing lines up. Here’s how.

Russos back at Marvel

The Russo brothers are returning to direct upcoming Marvel films, including Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars. There’s talk they might continue working with Marvel after Secret Wars to help shape the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Meanwhile, Zack Snyder is reportedly getting back to his DC universe – now called the SnyderVerse – with financial backing from Saudi Arabia. They apparently want a large-scale event similar to Marvel’s Avengers movies.

Both Marvel and DC benefited from having direct competition. The Marvel Cinematic Universe peaked creatively with the Russo brothers directing, and Zack Snyder’s initial run with DC—culminating in Justice League—performed much better than any DC films released afterward, especially considering he wasn’t involved in those later projects.

Gunn’s DC Future Looks Finished

According to the New York Post, Skydance/Paramount is currently the most likely buyer of a stake in CNN. This is largely due to Donald Trump’s existing relationship with the direction CNN is now taking, and that fact alone strongly suggests what the future holds for James Gunn.

Look, I’m hearing some pretty concerning things about what a Skydance-Paramount takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery could mean for James Gunn and his DC Universe plans. Apparently, if the deal goes through, Gunn might be pushed out – or quit beforehand. And Variety is reporting Paramount is leaning heavily into a more conservative direction. That creates a huge problem because Gunn’s vision for DC – which, let’s be honest, has already been a bit controversial – includes storylines that directly confront Nazi ideology, even suggesting parallels between our world and a Nazi-controlled one. Frankly, it’s hard to see how that fits with a Paramount going in a dramatically different direction. It just doesn’t seem sustainable.

He’s also lost viewers outside of the US, and it’s clear why Warner Bros. scheduled the next Minecraft movie just two weeks after James Gunn’s Man of Tomorrow in 2027.

Snyder knows

Snyder shared a tribute image of Superman, featuring Henry Cavill, on Veterans Day. He’s aware of the current situation and the reaction to it.

According to a source, Snyder intentionally shared a Superman post with the American flag on Veterans Day to show his values. This seems to contrast with the values of James Gunn, the new head of DC, which is unexpected.

Marvel vs DC

If Zack Snyder gets to continue his vision for the DC Universe, he’ll be able to complete the story he started with Justice League. However, sources say DC will probably reboot the universe again soon, likely with Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy leading the way after their contracts with Warner Bros. were recently extended. James Gunn’s contract, though, hasn’t been renewed.
