Zack Snyder Shares a Look Back at One of His Favorite Shots of Ben Affleck’s Batman

Zack Snyder has been actively sharing content with his fans on Instagram. Since recently joining the platform, the director has consistently posted photos showing what it was like behind the scenes of his biggest movies.

A lot of the recent online discussion has centered around his contributions to DC Comics films, with fans sharing fresh glimpses of footage from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League.

I was scrolling through Zack Snyder’s latest posts and stumbled upon a brand new photo of Ben Affleck as Batman! It’s a black and white shot, and honestly, it really captures that dark, serious vibe he brought to the character. He just captioned it, “One of my favorite Batman photos,” and I totally get why – it’s a great image.

The post quickly caught the attention of fans who have long praised Affleck’s version of Batman.

He first played the role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, a film that initially got mixed reactions from critics but later gained a dedicated following. Directed by Zack Snyder, the movie presented a grittier, more mature take on the hero, differing from previous versions.

Ben Affleck reprised his role as Batman in both Suicide Squad and Justice League. However, his involvement with the DC films wasn’t without challenges. During the making of Justice League, director Zack Snyder had to leave due to a personal loss, and Joss Whedon took over to complete the movie. Afterwards, reports emerged of friction on set and accusations that Whedon mistreated the cast. Affleck himself admitted to battling personal problems at the time, describing the whole experience as “difficult.”

Following his work on Justice League, Ben Affleck chose to leave The Batman, both as director and actor, because he felt disconnected from the story. He’s said he struggled to find the right approach, and that his initial excitement for the project had diminished.

Seeing Snyder talk about it really hit me – it’s easy to forget how much Affleck’s Batman meant to people. Even with all the drama that went on behind the scenes, those two clearly made something special. It’s cool to remember they helped create one of the most discussed Batmans we’ve seen in years, and one that fans still talk about a lot.
