Zack Snyder, the director famous for his DC movies, is really active on Instagram lately. He’s been posting fun behind-the-scenes content from his biggest films, which fans of the DC Universe are loving. It’s a great way for fans to get a peek into how his superhero movies are made.
Recently, director Zack Snyder shared a new photo from the set of *Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice*, showing Henry Cavill as Superman. He’s now given fans another exclusive look, this time at a behind-the-scenes image of the character Deathstroke.
Snyder shared a post praising Joe Manganiello’s portrayal of Deathstroke, thanking him for perfectly embodying the character and bringing the deadly assassin to life.
Joe Manganiello first played Deathstroke in a brief scene after the credits of the 2017 film *Justice League*. In that scene, he meets Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor on a yacht, where Luthor suggests creating a team of villains. This hinted at future DC movies with a villainous league, but those plans unfortunately didn’t come to fruition.
Ben Affleck’s planned Batman movie was originally going to feature Deathstroke as the primary villain. Affleck intended to both direct and star in the film, which would have shown Deathstroke systematically dismantling Bruce Wayne’s life.
Ben Affleck ultimately moved on from the project, and it evolved into Matt Reeves’ *The Batman* (2022), featuring Robert Pattinson as a new take on the character within a different DC universe.
Despite the initial setback, Joe Manganiello wasn’t giving up on playing Deathstroke. He actually wrote his own script for a Deathstroke movie and Warner Bros. considered it for a time. Ultimately, the project was canceled when the studio decided to start over with the DC universe.
Despite past challenges, Deathstroke could return to live-action films. As of September 2024, there were reports about a movie in development that would feature both Deathstroke and Bane, with Matthew Orton writing the script.
James Gunn, a co-head of DC Studios, revealed in February that David Orton was developing a DC project. While it wouldn’t focus specifically on those two characters, it would share a comparable style and overall idea. Production was planned to begin this year at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in England.
A recent photo from Snyder has sparked renewed interest among fans in seeing more of Deathstroke in the DC Universe. Despite a brief but impactful appearance by Joe Manganiello, it’s evident Snyder remains a fan of both the actor and the character.
