To celebrate the upcoming anniversary of his version of the Justice League on March 18th, Zack Snyder has been sharing related content, and recently included images of the character Darkseid.
Zack Snyder posted a picture of Darkseid, pointing out that he’s a major DC Comics villain who has only appeared in one live-action movie: Snyder’s own Justice League.
The wording is what jumps out.

Zack Snyder puts the focus on Darkseid
Snyder didn’t just introduce Darkseid and move on. He specifically emphasized that Darkseid had only appeared in live-action form in Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
It definitely feels like Zack Snyder is intentionally reminding us of his original vision for the DC Universe. He’s been sharing a lot lately about how he pictured things, specifically revisiting moments with Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Superman (Henry Cavill), and even bringing up John Stewart (Wayne T. Carr). It’s like he’s subtly saying, ‘This is what I had planned,’ and it’s interesting to see him highlight those elements now.
He’s now focusing on Darkseid, a character who was always key to the overall story Zack Snyder envisioned for the sequels to Justice League.

Darkseid reserved for the SnyderVerse
Saying someone ‘only appears in Zack Snyder’s Justice League’ feels like more than just a statement of fact – it carries a weight of its own.
Zack Snyder is deliberately distancing his vision for the DC universe from previous and subsequent iterations. Darkseid, a major character in Snyder’s plans, remains a key unfinished element, and Snyder understands fans recognize him as central to the story he wasn’t able to complete.
It also reminds us that Darkseid was originally set up to be the main villain, but that storyline was never resolved.
We’ve heard from sources that James Gunn can’t use the character Darkseid due to potential plans for Zack Snyder to complete his Justice League films, reportedly at Paramount Pictures.
