As a fan, I’ve been hearing a lot about why some recent movies just aren’t connecting with audiences, and Zachary Levi recently shared his thoughts on it. He basically said that focusing too much on ‘woke’ themes seems to be a big part of why these films aren’t doing well in theaters. It’s interesting to hear someone in the industry talk openly about this, and it definitely resonates with what I’ve been feeling!
I was really struck by what Zachary Levi said on Nerdrotic’s channel. He wasn’t shy about expressing his concerns – he believes Hollywood has gone too far with pushing specific messages in its movies and shows, and it’s really impacting the stories they tell.

Zachary Levi: Audiences Are Tired of Being Preached To
Levi argues that the issue isn’t political viewpoints themselves, but rather the way politics are being pushed into narratives where they feel out of place.
There’s a lot of forced messaging that’s frustrating even to moderate and liberal viewers. They’re questioning why this particular storyline is being included, feeling it doesn’t add anything to the plot and comes across as unwanted lecturing within something that should be purely entertainment.
Levi pointed out that movies and TV should be a form of escape, not feel like they’re trying to teach you a lesson while pretending to be fun.

Political Messaging vs. Moral Storytelling
One YouTuber pointed out a difference between telling political stories and telling stories with a moral message, and Levi seemed to share that view.
Compelling stories generally center around themes of good versus evil, the impact of decisions, and shared human beliefs. However, when stories prioritize political messages over these moral foundations, they risk losing their audience and creating division.
The conversation suggested this change is a key factor in why many newer franchises have trouble resonating with their audiences.

Politics and the Warner Bros. Discovery Deal?
Levi also suggested politics may have played a role behind the scenes at Warner Bros. Discovery.
He suggested that political factors might have been behind Warner Bros. Discovery’s rejection of Paramount’s offer, implying that company decisions are now driven by beliefs as much as by profits.

Regardless of what people think of his statements, Levi’s feelings echo a widespread frustration among viewers – and more and more actors – who believe Hollywood has forgotten what makes movies enjoyable.
