‘You’ve Lied To Me Again’: Martin Bobb-Semple Reflects On Lando’s Unresolved Feelings In All American: Homecoming

As a dedicated follower of the captivating series All American: Homecoming, I must say that Martin Bobb-Semple’s portrayal of Orlando Lando Johnston has been a rollercoaster ride of emotions. From his confident and somewhat troubled beginnings to his transformation into a more complex and likable character, Lando’s journey has been intriguing to watch.

Martin Bobb-Semple’s character, Orlando Lando Johnson, has experienced quite a transformation since his debut on All American: Homecoming. Initially, he was a self-assured baseball player who caused friction between Simone (Geffri Maya) and Damon (Peyton Alex Smith) in Season 1. But as the series progressed into Season 2, Lando evolved into a more relatable and multidimensional character.

In Season 3, Lando’s bond with Simone weakens following her decision to be with Damon, concluding the love triangle. Yet, there are attempts to mend their friendship. A more recent episode shows Lando aiding Simone in a personal issue, implying that old feelings may linger between them.

In a recent interview with Deadline, Bobb-Semple admitted that reading the script for this heartfelt episode initially terrified him due to its unprecedented challenges as an actor. He went on to say, “At first I was extremely scared, but once I dove into it, it turned out to be an exceptional experience. Geffri is fantastic. Our collaboration on that project has been one of the most rewarding moments in my career thus far, truly, because it was simply a delightful experience.”

Regarding Lando’s emotional reaction in the episode, Bobb-Semple pointed out that it wasn’t just about Simone lying to him. In truth, Lando felt deceived and wounded because he thought his relationship with his mother was on the mend. When he discovered that Simone had secretly been helping him financially, he perceived this as a breach of trust.

Bobb-Semple conveyed to the source, “Upon discovering that it was indeed Simone, he felt a blend of ‘You’ve deceived me once more,’ and also surprise, because he believed their relationship between him and his mother was strong. However, in reality, it wasn’t as healthy as he thought.”

He added, “I think, again, he masks it with anger, but really he was hurt by it. Because he was like, ‘Oh, I thought I was in a better place with my mother, but I wasn’t. It was you the whole time?’”

1. The story concludes on an optimistic tone, as Lando and Simone’s friendship is rebuilt, albeit with some lingering issues. Bobb-Semple expressed a feeling of finality as the season ended, unaware at the time that the series was coming to an end permanently.

Homecoming titled “Have You Seen Her?” is promising to deliver a heartfelt experience, complete with emotional disclosures and strengthened bonds among friends.
