The hit series “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” has wrapped up its impressive debut season, and we’re already excited for what’s coming next! Series creator Jeff Trammell hinted on Instagram that the beloved Marvel character Gwen Stacy will make her appearance in season two. Unlike her previous role as Peter Parker’s girlfriend, this time she will be more than just a supporting character – she’ll be a superhero herself! This aligns with Gwen’s current persona as Ghost Spider/Spider-Gwen from the latest Marvel Comics. Different from her original portrayal where she met a tragic end.
In the new design for Gwen’s costume, there are resemblances to both her comic book version and her appearance in the Spider-Verse movies. The color scheme of pink, black, white, and blue remains, but now she sports a jacket as part of the outfit. Given that this Gwen Stacy is portrayed as a superhero, it seems likely that the spider which bit Peter Parker has been found – in the first episode, we saw the spider crawl into another student’s backpack, although the specific student was unnamed. It’s possible that Gwen could have gained her powers in some other way, but it looks like the mystery of “Where did the spider go?” may be solved with this new character.
In many stories about Spider-Man, Gwen Stacy is often portrayed as a victim rather than a hero. However, in an alternate universe (Earth-65) from 2014, it was Gwen who was bitten by the radioactive spider instead of Peter Parker. This version of Gwen Stacy is similar to the one featured in the movie “Into the Spider-Verse,” voiced by Hailee Steinfeld. On the other hand, a new cartoon series called “Spidey and His Amazing Friends” presents a different scenario where both Gwen and Peter Parker, along with Miles Morales, get their powers at the same time and are all of pre-school age. The upcoming season 2 of this show will feature Jeff Trammell’s take on the character.
