Jeremy Renner suggests that a second season of Hawkeye is still a possibility, even though it was previously reported he wouldn’t be returning.
Jeremy Renner, known for his role as Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, discussed his work on a recent episode of The Playlist’s Bingeworthy podcast. He was promoting the latest season of his Paramount+ series, Mayor of Kingstown, when he appeared.
Jeremy Renner shared that plans for a second season of Hawkeye are still being discussed. He feels prepared to come back to the role now that he’s fully recovered from his serious snowplow accident and as his show, Mayor of Kingstown, begins its fourth season.
We’re moving forward with plans for a second season, and I’m confident I’ll be well enough to make it happen. We’re figuring out the details, and it’s going to be fantastic.
The actor shared his thoughts on what made the first season of Hawkeye special. He particularly liked the show’s more personal and family-focused approach, noting that this is a core part of Clint Barton’s character. He believes Clint’s greatest strength isn’t a superpower, but his humanity – he’s a superhero without any powers.
You know, what I really admire about this character is his sheer resilience – that real, human grit. And honestly, it’s his dedication to family that truly grounds him. I mean, what else are you battling for if not the people you love? That’s what’s always fascinated me about the story. Plus, filming in New York around Christmas? That was just magical, honestly.
Renner had previously shared that he was asked to return for the second season, but the proposed salary was significantly lower – about half of what he made on the first season. Given the lengthy, eight-month filming commitment and his ongoing recovery from his injuries, he ultimately decided to decline the offer.
Renner didn’t accuse Marvel or Disney of wrongdoing, but suggested he turned down the opportunity because of the money offered.
The possibility of a second season of Hawkeye is great news. Jeremy Renner is dedicated to continuing Clint Barton’s story, and the show’s focus on family makes it a more realistic and relatable part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If everyone involved can reach an agreement, fans might get another season that captures the heart of the first one.
