“You know, what? I want to do my game”: Director of 2025 Elden Ring Competitor Was the Brains Behind Marvel’s Most Underrated Game of This Decade

Jacque Belletête boasts an impressive 23-year career in the gaming sector, collaborating with numerous leading developers such as Ubisoft and Square Enix. His forthcoming creation, titled Hell is Us, is being touted as a rival to Elden Ring.

Skilled videogame creator Belletête has indelibly impacted every project he’s touched, such as the critically acclaimed yet overlooked Marvel game, “Guardians of the Galaxy: Marvel’s Edition“. As its art director, his work on this game is particularly noteworthy.

Following decades of employment at Ubisoft, Belletête grew tired and yearned for independence. Joined by a handful of others, he departed from Ubisoft to establish Eidos Montréal, a studio that went on to contribute significantly to several hit games, including ‘Deus Ex: Human Revolution’ and ‘Mankind Divided’.

Subsequently, the studio opted to team up with Square Enix and endeavored to produce “Final Fantasy XV”. Later, he joined forces as the art director for “Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy”, an impressive game that, unfortunately, didn’t garner much attention.

Following this point, he determined it was time for him to move on and create a game of his own – one that would eventually be recognized as “Hell is Us“. This forthcoming third-person horror title has been causing quite a stir recently, with many eagerly anticipating its release. In an interview with TrueAchievements, he expressed:

At that moment, I found myself thinking, you know, I’m ready to create my own game. For years, I had been discussing potential collaborations with my friend Yves Bordeleau, who is the general manager at Rogue Factor. However, it just never seemed like the perfect time for us to work together.

After that, I found myself musing, ‘I believe this is the point where I’ve had enough of the AAA studio environment.’ This has nothing to do with Eidos – oh, Eidos is like family to me, really. We were four when we truly embarked on Deus Ex, and by the time I left, there were 500 of us! They are my kin, but no, it’s the AAA studio scene that was growing monotonous, and I had grown too accustomed to it.

As a fan yearning for something fresh, I found myself growing weary of AAA titles and their familiarities. The desire to create something unique and distinctly different sparked within me, leading me to conceptualize a chilling third-person horror game – Hell is Us. Expected to drop in the second half of 2025, this project will undoubtedly bring an unparalleled gaming experience.
