During its Tudum event, Netflix has unveiled a trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s adaptation of Frankenstein, which is set to premiere on their streaming platform in November, finally quelling the anticipation for movie enthusiasts.
In this film, Oscar Isaac plays the role of Dr. Victor Frankenstein, while Jacob Elordi is cast as the Creature. Alongside them, you’ll also see Mia Goth, Felix Kammerer, Charles Dance, and Christoph Waltz in significant roles.
“Only Monsters Play God,” teased Netflix. Watch the trailer below.
Longtime Passion Project for Del Toro
Guillermo del Toro, who finds the film deeply personal, is both the writer and director of “Frankenstein.” In fact, he’s been nurturing a dream to bring this movie to life for more than 50 years. Over the past two decades, he has diligently worked on its development.
Del Toro stated, ‘The character has merged so deeply within me that it feels like writing my own life story.’ He added, ‘There’s no getting more intimate than this.’
I’m excitedly sharing that the movie trailer offers a haunting, moody interpretation of Mary Shelley’s timeless novel, delving deep into themes of intense fixation, birth, and sorrow.
What’s the Story?
According to the well-known story, Frankenstein revolves around Victor Frankenstein, an intelligent yet imprudent scientist, who attempts to bring life from deceased matter. However, his experiment goes awry, leading to a heartbreaking sequence of events that eventually leads to the demise of both the inventor and his invention.
Netflix’s storyline revolves around the character of Dr. Pretorius, portrayed by Christoph Waltz, who embarks on a quest to locate Frankenstein’s Monster, thought to have perished in a fire many years ago. Dr. Pretorius aims to carry on with the initial scientific explorations.

The cast includes:
- Oscar Isaac – Dr. Victor Frankenstein
- Jacob Elordi – The Monster
