Are you prepared to embark on another trip to the planet Eternia? Before He-Man uses the Power Sword in the upcoming “Masters of the Universe” movie, he’ll make a comeback in comic books first. Dark Horse Comics and Mattel have announced a new mini-series titled “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: The Sword of Flaws“. This series is penned by Tim Seeley and illustrated by Freddie E. Williams II (Turtles of Grayskull). We’ve just gotten a sneak peek at some of the interior artwork, which depicts our heroes fighting against Skeletor and his troops. Although this line-art isn’t final yet, it offers an exciting glimpse into what we can anticipate as the comic comes to life. This series takes place in the classic 80s “MOTU” world of cartoons and toyline. You can view these early preview pages from the first issue in our gallery below:

The Sword of Flaws” series, accompanied by both the standard and variant cover illustrations for issue number 1.

A troop of valiant warriors safeguards the mystical land called Eternia. They are headed by Teela, the Commander of the Royal Guard, Man-at-Arms, the weapon specialist and martial arts trainer, and the mighty and noble He-Man. These champions, famously known as the Masters of the Universe, ward off perils such as the wicked Skeletor and his followers. However, when an ancient and malevolent artifact is discovered from deep below ground, the Masters of the Universe must traverse the land in search of this Preternian power to prevent it from falling into the grasp of their most formidable adversaries.

Longtime fans of “Masters of the Universe” will recall Preternia as the old, prehistoric name for Eternia. Originally conceived as the main setting for Mattel’s 80’s toy line titled “Powers of Grayskull,” which featured He-Man’s ancestor, He-Ro. However, the idea didn’t get off the ground. Could we possibly meet He-Ro in this series? The cover for “Masters of the Universe: The Sword of Flaws” #1 suggests that He-Man won’t only clash with Skeletor but also his major adversaries, Hordak and King Hiss. It seems like He-Man might require all the assistance he can get.

In comic book stores, you’ll find “The Masters of the Universe: The Sword of Imperfections #1” (out of 4) on shelves starting from September 24, 2025.
