We’re fond of a TV show that keeps us puzzled and curious. In fact, it’s intriguing how each answer we receive leads to two more questions. It’s like dealing with a mythical creature, the Hydra of mysteries. Undoubtedly, you’ve recognized from the title that I’m referring to Apple TV+’s smash hit, “Severance”. After pondering over all the queries left unanswered after season two, I found myself immersed in thoughts about it for quite some time. (You can catch a full discussion on our YouTube channel.) The one certainty we have is that a third season is under development. However, true to its nature, the show’s producer/director Ben Stiller has been sparing with hints about what’s in store for us next.
During an extensive conversation with Variety, both Stiller and the main actor Adam Scott addressed topics like the show’s widespread cultural impact and its passionate viewership. Additionally, they fielded the predictable barrage of queries that they chose not to respond to initially.
The person was asked about the number of episodes written for Season 3, but they chose not to discuss it. When inquired about the total number of seasons that will be produced, they smiled and refused to comment. Similarly, when asked if John Turturro would return, they also chose not to reveal anything.
In other words, the person was evasive and did not provide any information regarding the episodes written for Season 3, the total number of seasons, or the appearance of John Turturro in future installments.
As a movie critic, I must say that Stiller isn’t lacking in intelligence. He’s well aware of the significance of a broad smile in this specific scenario. It wasn’t mere coincidence that he recalled a hilarious moment from Becker during his response. Therefore, we can confidently expect John Turturro to reappear. To put it bluntly, he’s an indispensable player in the cinematic world.
The interviewer inquired if they could develop concepts inspired by “Severance” for other series, and it seems like that’s definitely a possibility.
In simpler terms, when asked if Severance could potentially lead to more shows or spin-offs, Ben Stiller replied that there are two unspecified ideas that have been considered internally as possible spin-off options. He didn’t provide any details about the current stage of development of these concepts, nor did he mention if they’ve been discussed with Apple, only saying that they are still in their early stages (nascent).
I think it’d be intriguing to delve into more details about Lumon’s early history, particularly focusing on Harmony Cobel’s background. However, instead of just one origin story, why not explore various shady aspects of Lumon from different parts of the world? For instance, we know that other cities have underground levels, but what exactly is going on in Italy with that mysterious pit and the rope ladder? It’s like, what in the world is that all about?
Lastly, it’s worth noting that Stiller and Scott have shown a keen interest in transforming Lumon into an interactive platform, which aligns perfectly with our shared passions.
Stiller proposes the idea of a “Severance” video game, which Scott also finds appealing, stating that the concept seems fitting. In the future, they aim to produce merchandise similar to Lumon keyboards, as long as it maintains a unique and tailored feel that aligns with the show.
Would I enjoy playing a Severance-themed video game? Absolutely, it’d be something like Control but with less emphasis on monsters. Count me in!
Regardless of how it comes, we’re eager for more of “Severance” as soon as possible. I simply must find out about Gemma’s fate! Should she be recaptured, I may just cause a stir. Listen up, Ben!
