Everyone mistakenly believes Yoshi is a scary creature, but he’s actually a friendly face! In the new trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy movie, Mario and Luigi investigate a strange crack in the desert and are surprised to find Yoshi inside. It turns out the little Tostarenans were scared of him all along! We don’t see much of what’s to come, but we’re thrilled to have Yoshi join the adventure. Even Toad seems pretty nonchalant about it, simply stating, “So a dinosaur just shows up, and he’s now part of the group, cool.”
Besides the brief glimpse of Yoshi, the new trailer for The Super Mario Bros. Movie is packed with fast-paced scenes and fun references for fans. Here are some of the highlights we noticed.
- The Tostarenans join the fun in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie‘s trailer: The Tostarenans live in the San Kingdom of Super Mario‘s world. They are inspired by the traditional skull-shaped figures and candies made during Día de Muertos, or “Day of the Dead,” and often play instruments such as maracas and guitars, as we see in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. They wear sombreros and ponchos, and we love them a lot.

- The Fire Flower Power-Up: These Super Mario Bros. flower-power powered-ups are some of the coolest in the game. If used, they grant the player character their “Fire form,” which includes the ability to shoot fireballs and… light up dark spaces. We see Mario and Luigi change into their “Fire forms” thanks to Fire Flowers in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie trailer as they look for Yoshi.

- The Super Mario Galaxy Movie‘s trailer brings us Birdo: BIRDO! We love this weird creature so much. You never know how Birdo is going to show up in the Super Mario world, but you always know you will enjoy seeing them. Who doesn’t enjoy a character that can spit eggs from their mouth? And the hot pink makes our enjoyment of Birdo a GIVEN. We wonder how Yoshi and Birdo will get along in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

Yoshi is a fan favorite, and many people think he deserves his own trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. We’re excited to see more of him when the movie comes out in theaters on April 1st. The film is an animated sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023), which was a huge success, earning over $1.3 billion worldwide. Both films are produced by Chris Meledandri of Illumination and Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo.

And just to confirm, a real T.rex is actually a hidden surprise – an Easter egg – in some Super Mario games; they really do appear!
