Who is the Antler Queen? Who is Pit Girl? How are the Yellowjackets rescued? And who murdered Lottie? While these responses were somewhat predictable, they still left us intrigued for more. The final episode of Yellowjackets season three was packed with action, but some answers felt a tad too obvious. However, it left enough unanswered questions to keep us eagerly anticipating another season. It’s possible that Yellowjackets season four might serve as the series finale as well.
In the final episode of Yellowjackets’ third season, titled “Full Circle,” we were presented with significant disclosures and intriguing queries that have left us pondering.
Revelations From the Yellowjackets’ Season 3 Finale—“Full Circle”
Past Timeline: Mari Is Pit Girl
It’s been speculated among Yellowjackets fans for some time now that the character Mari could be the enigmatic figure known as Pit Girl, who met a tragic end in a pit as her teammates pursued her during the first episode of season one in Yellowjackets. In the final episode of season three, it’s finally confirmed that yes, Mari is indeed Pit Girl.
After determining another hunt is needed to pacify the wilderness/relieve their brutality/attempt one more kill, it’s Mari who is chosen to draw the Queen of Hearts. Tai and Van attempt to manipulate the cards, making Hannah, the newcomer, the one to draw the Queen instead. However, Shauna steps in to prevent this. As a result, Mari flees to escape being killed by her own team.
In real time, we watch as Mari changes into Pit Girl, thinking it will help her escape more effectively in her white nightgown that matches the snow. Desperate, she discards her clothes and shoes, then dashes off, barefoot and dressed only in her nightgown, into the forest covered with snow. However, the wilderness proves unfriendly to Mari. She stumbles upon a trap that Travis had laid for Lottie in episode eight, causing her to tumble into the dangerous pit. Snap. Farewell, Mari/Pit Girl.
Past Timeline: Shauna Is the Antler Queen
In the long-running series “Yellowjackets,” a recurring question has been who the character known as the Antler Queen is, a mystery that unfolds in episode one through a flashback. The season three finale finally reveals the identity of the Antler Queen: it’s Shauna. Following their pursuit of Mari, Shauna commands the team to bring back Mari’s hair and permits Lottie to bedeck her with antlers and display her as a trophy… Quite unpleasant. Frankly, this isn’t the vision we had for the Antler Queen. Instead, she should be an otherworldly and enchanting figure. Unfortunately, Shauna is merely angry. If they were other Yellowjackets team members, we’d suggest removing her head!
Past Timeline: Natalie Makes Contact with the Outside World Through the Satellite Phone
In the third season finale of the show “Yellowjackets,” there seems to be a resolution to the question of how the team can be saved. Amidst Shauna’s triumph after the feast and her role as Antler Queen, Natalie takes off with the satellite phone in an attempt to connect with any signs of human life. Towards the end of the season, she succeeds! With a piece from the damaged plane’s transponder attached, the satellite phone finally dials out. There is an answer on the other end. It appears they will find the Yellowjackets team, but we’re unsure about the timeframe for their rescue.
Present Timeline: Callie Killed Adult Lottie
As a die-hard Yellowjackets fan, one of the most intriguing mysteries in season three for me was uncovering the true identity of Lottie’s killer. Initially, I, along with Misty and Walter, believed it was Shauna due to the presence of her DNA under Lottie’s nails. However, the truth proved to be more complex than we anticipated. The real culprit wasn’t just Shauna; it was Callie, who, interestingly, shares mitochondrial DNA with her mother, that took Lottie’s life.
Lottie picked up a wilderness symbol tag that Callie discovered when she left Shauna’s house. Later, Callie questioned Lottie about this, but Lottie dismissed her concerns, feeling drawn to Callie because it seemed like Callie embodied the spirit of the Wilderness baby they had lost. This made Callie very uncomfortable, especially since she carried some of Shauna’s DNA. In a moment of panic, Callie shoved Lottie down the stairs, leading to her death. Misty eventually uncovered the truth, and Callie admitted it to Jeff. However, much like other murders in “Yellowjackets”, it seems that there won’t be significant repercussions for Callie’s actions.
Jeff and Callie do run away from Shauna, though. And we bet she won’t like that for long.
Present Timeline: Melissa Did Really Leave Shauna a Note
As it turns out, although Melissa killed Van, she did indeed write a note about the tape for Shauna. Callie unfortunately didn’t manage to catch it before it slipped through her grasp due to being startled by Jeff. It’s difficult to pinpoint exactly what Melissa intended, but we can certainly expect more insights in Yellowjackets season four.
Questions From the Yellowjackets’ Season 3 Finale—“Full Circle”
Past Timeline: What Will Happen Between Shauna and Natalie Before Rescue?
Currently, Shauna holds the title of Antler Queen in the wilderness, yet it appears she doesn’t have many admirers. Instead of obeying her commands, Nat dared to race up the mountain and attempt to reactivate the satellite phone. It’s clear that Nat made it through alive for a rescue, but we can tell a significant power struggle is imminent.
Past Timeline: How Will Hannah Die?
In the final episode of season three, Hannah didn’t perish during the hunt, but her life is now in grave danger, leading us to ponder how she might meet her demise. Given that we know she won’t return from the wilderness to reunite with her daughter, it’s only a matter of time before something tragic befalls her.
Present Timeline: What Is the Deal with Adult Melissa?
It seems that the purpose of Melissa’s character isn’t entirely clear, as her actions are somewhat conflicting. She apparently was truthful when she claimed to have sent the tape along with an explanation. However, she also killed Van and maintains a belief in the wilderness. This inconsistency leaves us puzzled about what her adult storyline was intended to convey.
Present Timeline: Will Misty and Tai Frame Shauna For Murder?
In a new development, Misty and Tai appear to be pursuing Shauna with strong intentions. Tai believes that Shauna bears the responsibility for Van’s death, which has fueled their pursuit. Furthermore, Shauna hasn’t been kind to Misty and her past actions in the wilderness have not gone unnoticed by them. However, it remains uncertain what action they will take next. They possess evidence suggesting Shauna killed Lottie, but there’s a question of whether they’ll use it against her. It’s possible that season four could see Misty and Tai making attempts to ensure Shauna is imprisoned permanently. One thing that is certain, though, is that Shauna will continue to retaliate when provoked.
Present Timeline: What Will Shauna Do Next?
Discussing Shauna, she’s brimming with enthusiasm and yearning to regain her title as Antler Queen. In her diary, she admits she has recalled her identity from the wilderness – a warrior, a queen. She reminisces about the enjoyment she derived from those roles, even recalling instances of hunting and confrontations that included her friends. To put it simply, Shauna’s choosing to embrace her wilderness power once more. However, considering the current narrative of Yellowjackets, it seems this revival could spell trouble for both Shauna and other characters.
Present Timeline: What’s Walter’s Deal?
Hey there! It feels like something’s brewing with Walter, doesn’t it? I mean, he can’t just be intrigued and smitten by Misty, right? In the finale, he was lurking around with a rather ominous or angry vibe, as if some heavy music from an emo band was following him. But what’s his game plan? He didn’t exactly make many moves in Yellowjackets season three. Frankly, we haven’t learned much about him so far. Guess we’ll have to tune in for season four to uncover more secrets!
Present Timeline: Was Someone Trying to Kill Shauna on Yellowjackets Season 3? (The Finale Doesn’t Tell Us)
In the final episode of Yellowjackets season three, it’s unclear who was actually attempting to harm Shauna during this particular season. Misty confesses to trapping Shauna in a freezer, but this doesn’t explain the enigmatic phone playing “Queen of Hearts” or Shauna’s malfunctioning brakes. Could it have been Melissa, Walter, or someone else entirely? Or was it perhaps an unknown factor? It seems we might never know for sure.
What Does the Yellowjackets Wilderness Symbol Mean?
We’ve been eagerly anticipating the revelation behind the mysterious Yellowjackets wilderness emblem for what feels like an eternity… Yet, in season three, we were left none the wiser about its meaning or origin. From where did this enigmatic mark originate? What significance does it hold? And why is it so ominous in the wilderness? Could someone please shed some light on this mystery for us?
Is “It” Real on Yellowjackets?
In essence, our question about Yellowjackets remains the same: Is it madness or magic? Does an otherworldly force control events, or are the experiences of our main characters merely a result of their psychological trauma? At times, especially when depicting the afterlife, the series seems to suggest a divine entity is involved. However, at other moments, it appears as though everything is mere coincidence. Therefore, Yellowjackets, which one is it?
With the broadcast of the Yellowjackets finale, episode 10, we’ve reached the conclusion of season three. Now, you can stream the entire season on Paramount+, in partnership with SHOWTIME.
