Initially hinted at in the first episode, a woman with no face and dark hair was suggested as the victim of the ruthless soccer team, who later earned the moniker Pit Girl throughout the show’s run. However, it wasn’t until the finale of season three that we discovered Mari had been the secretive brunette all along.

Alexa Barajas, the actress portraying Mari, instinctively sensed that her character might be the Pit Girl. “I didn’t always know, but I had a suspicion,” she shared with Deadline. Barajas remembered noticing something peculiar while watching the pilot episode.

She spotted a girl dashing through the forest, and her shadow reminded her of her fictional character. “It felt like everything was leading towards this moment, and I’m thrilled that we’ve finally managed to bring it to life,” she concluded.

Fans felt satisfied after learning that Mari being the Pit Girl fit neatly with several theories, while it was also unveiled that Sophie Nélisse’s character, Shauna, was the Antler Queen, as predicted by some theories.

Barajas appeared well-versed in fan speculations! She disclosed that the fandom is typically split between two extreme theories. On one hand, some ardently wished for her to play the Pit Girl character, while on the other, many were vehemently opposed to the notion. Regardless of their preferences, the actress expressed hope that now that they’ve received an answer, fans will find satisfaction.

When discussing her process of replicating the introductory scene from the premiere, Barajas mentioned that she aimed to create a “returning-full-circle” atmosphere.
