‘Yaiba’ Is Coming Back with a New Anime in April, Trailer Confirms

The recently aired episode of Detective Conan ended with an exciting surprise – a teaser video for a new anime titled Shin Samurai-den YAIBA, which is based on the Yaiba manga by Gōshō Aoyama and will officially debut on April 5.

The program will be broadcast on YTV, NTV, and other Japanese networks at 5:30 p.m., which is equivalent to 4:30 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT). Following this, ‘Detective Conan’ will air at 6:00 p.m., or 5:00 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST). Thus, the “Gōshō Aoyama Hour” programming block is created!

Fans will get a sneak peek at the first three episodes of “Shin Samurai-den YAIBA” before its TV premiere. The series debuts on March 13 across 10 TOHO CINEMAS locations. In addition to watching the episodes, attendees will have a chance to engage in a discussion with creator Gōshō Aoyama, director Takahiro Hasui, and character designer Yoshimichi Kameda.

The narrative centers around a young warrior named Yaiba Kurogane, whose ambitions match the size of his blade. He finds motivation in Miyamoto Musashi, the renowned historical swordsman, famous for mastering the dual-blade technique known as Hyōhō Niten Ichi-ryū and penning The Book of Five Rings. Prepare yourself for a wealth of action, swordfights, and timeless samurai drama!

An impressive ensemble is breathing life into these characters: Minami Takayama portrays Yaiba, Manaka Iwami embodies Sayaka Mine, while Yoshimasa Hosoya assumes the character of Takeshi Onimaru. Simultaneously, Katsuyuki Konishi lends his vocal talents to Kenjūrō Kurogane, and Junichi Suwabe brings Musashi Miyamoto to life on screen.

Off-camera, the anime production is being expertly managed by Takahiro Hasui, who has previously worked on Mob Psycho 100 II and Aikatsu Friends!, and is currently directing the series at Wit Studio. The scripts are in capable hands with Touko Machida, a seasoned writer known for her work on The IDOLM@STER and 7th Time Loop: The Villainess Enjoys a Carefree Life.

Yoshimichi Kameda, who was once the head of animation for the “INU-OH” movie, is now supervising the character designs and animation. In terms of music, Yutaka Yamada (known for his work on “Tokyo Ghoul”) and Yoshiaki Dewa (“IRODUKU: The World in Colors”) are responsible for creating the soundtrack.

The team has some well-known members. Hirofumi Masuda oversees special effects, Yūsuke Takeda (Bamboo) is the art director, and Kazushi Fujii manages the art layout. Satoshi Hashimoto takes care of color design, Yukinori Nakamura directs 3D components, and Tōru Fukushi supervises composite photography.

Kiyoshi Hirose takes care of editing, Eiko Morikawa manages sound effects, Haru Yamada, famous for his work in Made in Abyss and IRODUKU: The World in Colors, oversees sound direction. Lastly, Maiko Okada, whose credits include Great Pretender razbliuto, is spearheading the animation production.

Aoyama’s “Yaiba” comic book was initially published in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine, spanning from September 1988 to December 1993, and concluded with a total of 24 volumes. Earlier, an anime adaptation emerged and ran from April 1993 to April 1994, consisting of 52 episodes.
