This week has been particularly exciting for fans of portable gaming, as Nintendo’s long-awaited Switch 2 hit store shelves. Now, Microsoft is stepping into the competitive market with its plans to release two new handheld devices designed for gamers on the move. They announced the ROG Xbox Ally and the ROG Xbox Ally X.
Microsoft is partnering with ASUS to integrate Xbox’s capabilities with the flexibility typically associated with Windows. Essentially, they are working together to create a device that can compete with the Steam Deck and Nintendo Switch. There will be two models of this portable gadget, both powered by AMD processors. These devices will allow gamers to easily access their preferred games through cloud services or their nearby Xbox console.
The company labels the ROG Xbox Ally (16 GB RAM, 512 GB) as a “versatile handheld offering great value for both casual gamers and hardcore enthusiasts.” They refer to the ROG Xbox Ally X (24 GB RAM, 1 TB) as a “top-tier high-performance handheld, designed for the most demanding players.” No matter which model you choose, it will include standard Xbox features along with some brand new, innovative features. What’s particularly intriguing is that Microsoft emphasizes the speed at which games can be launched and played immediately.
In addition to playing your personal Xbox games, the ROG (presumably, I’m assuming it stands for something like “Xbox One Replacement Gadget”) will let you enjoy a variety of titles exclusive to PC as well. This is due to both devices running Windows. There are numerous benefits and cross-platform gaming opportunities that gamers can look forward to. For the complete list, check out Microsoft’s official announcement. Additionally, Microsoft has shared a behind-the-scenes video highlighting the device’s unique features.
Regarding the availability of both the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X, it won’t be too far off, particularly in certain markets. You might find them before the holiday season. Further distribution is planned afterwards. Unfortunately, specific pricing information isn’t available yet.
Currently, Xbox is encouraging enthusiasm about its forthcoming venture into the portable gaming sector. They prefer if you could focus on the excitement rather than any potential financial implications for you.
