New details about “Avengers: Doomsday” are emerging, with a cast member on location confirming that the movie will feature a battle between the X-Men and the Fantastic Four.
If you’re an admirer of the “Secret Wars” comic series, it won’t catch you off guard, but generally speaking, Marvel has a reputation for maintaining confidentiality about its work.
Alan Cumming spills be beans: Nightcrawler vs Mister Fantastic
Actor Alan Cumming is officially reprising his role as Nightcrawler in “Avengers: Doomsday”. In fact, he’s been quite open about his enthusiasm for resuming this character after a span of twenty years. During a recent chat, Cumming disclosed that the X-Men’s Nightcrawler will be squaring off against Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards from the Fantastic Four.
Once more, I’m diving into the X-Men movie role, this time as Nightcrawler again. Yesterday, I was rehearsing stunts for an action sequence, and I find myself thinking, ‘I’m 60 years old now.’ It’s been 23 years since I first portrayed that superhero. Back then, I was considered quite old to play a superhero. Now, I’m returning to the role, and that fact just strikes me as amusing.
Cumming went on to say, “I’m figuring out these fights, and I’m thinking, ‘Who is it that I’m up against?’ They told me, ‘You’re striking Pedro Pascal in the head,’ or something similar.
Alan Cumming Reacts to Returning as Nightcrawler After 23 Years
Alongside the casting announcement, Cumming expressed his excitement and amazement by saying, “Can you believe it? It’s been 23 years since I last played a superhero. I’ve already undergone makeup tests for this role, and what’s fantastic is that the application time has reduced significantly – from approximately four and a half hours to just 90 minutes.
Initially, all the tattoos were drawn by hand, he mentioned. The designs weren’t chosen until after we began filming. Now, they apply temporary ones on my face. It’s quite a transformation! I’m returning to play a 60-year-old superhero, and everyone seems very kind.
Why Are the X-Men Fighting the Fantastic Four in Avengers: Doomsday?
As a fervent fan, I can’t help but ponder the intriguing question: Why do the X-Men find themselves at odds with the Fantastic Four? In the captivating saga of Secret Wars, the enigmatic Beyonder assembles an array of Earth’s mightiest heroes and villains on Battleworld, offering the victor any wish they desire. The X-Men, the Fantastic Four, the Avengers, Doctor Doom alongside his malevolent crew, extraterrestrial beings, and even the colossal Galactus are all present in this epic conflict. The stage is set for an unforgettable battle royale!
Additionally, we have our confirmed cast members joining from the X-Men universe: Patrick Stewart reprises his role as Xavier, Ian McKellen takes on Magneto again, Rebecca Romijn is Mystique, James Marsden portrays Cyclops, and Channing Tatum steps into the character of Gambit – a role he previously played in Deadpool & Wolverine. There are also whispers suggesting Famke Janssen might return as Phoenix Jean Grey.
In the creation of the Fantastic Four, we have Vanessa Kirby portraying Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn stepping into the role of Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach becoming The Thing. It appears they could face a challenge against the X-Men, but Mr. Fantastic’s elastic abilities and Nightcrawler’s teleportation skills promise some exciting visual effects. As for Avengers: Doomsday, it remains unclear if the female Silver Surfer or Galactus will make an appearance.
